Solana co-founder Anatoly “Toly” Yakovenko turned an old insult into a battle cry on Sunday. On 6 September 2026, he posted, “I AM JOINING THE FIGHT AGAINST SLOWLANA ON THE SIDE OF SOLANA.” The Slowlana meme took off within minutes.
High Signal Summary For A Quick Glance
He fired again 33 seconds later. “slowlana added 10 robinhoods worth of capacity this year alone,” he wrote. The first post drew roughly 95,000 views inside 90 minutes, and the crypto crowd piled on fast.
Toly did not start the format. Raydium (@Raydium) opened at 14:32 GMT with, “I AM JOINING THE FIGHT AGAINST SOLANA ON THE SIDE OF SOLANA.”
Then Toly quote-tweeted that line and flipped “SOLANA” to “SLOWLANA.” His first post landed at 15:08:11 GMT. The capacity jab followed at 15:08:44 GMT, and it pulled about 76,000 views and 1,165 likes.
The timing matters. Days earlier, Toly had ripped into Robinhood Chain’s fee model. As Crypto Times reported, he called making money from congestion “brain dead.” So the Slowlana joke reads as a shot at Robinhood, not just old critics.
“Slowlana” is not new. Instead, it is a years-old jab at Solana for congesting or halting under load. Traders have used it since at least 2022.
The receipts run deep. The NFT project “Slowlana Slugs” launched in April 2022. Congestion memecoins and a “fuckslowlana” Telegram followed in late 2023 and 2024. Even a January 2025 Reddit post carried the title.
So Toly is reclaiming the insult rather than coining it. That reframing is the whole point of the Slowlana meme. He is turning years of trolling into a victory lap.
The joke rests on real upgrades. On 29 July 2026, Solana activated SIMD-0286 at epoch 1009. That change lifted the block limit from 60 million compute units to 100 million, a 66% jump.
Compute units are Solana’s version of gas. Each one measures the work a transaction asks of the network. A simple SOL transfer costs about 5,000 units, while a busy swap costs far more.
The climb was steady, too. First, SIMD-0207 raised the ceiling to 50 million in April 2025. Next, SIMD-0256 pushed it to 60 million in July 2025. Finally, Jito Labs engineer Lucas Bruder authored the 100 million raise, per the SIMD-0286 proposal.
The demand was real, too. Before the raise, 11.2% of blocks used 56 million units or more, per the Solana Foundation. So roughly one block in nine ran near the old ceiling.
The volume backs the boast. Solana logged 5.2 billion non-vote transactions in August, more than all other L1s and L2s combined, according to Solana Compass. In August, the network also cut slot time from 400ms to 350ms for the first time.
Toly never showed the math. Therefore treat “10 robinhoods worth of capacity” as a slogan, not a metric.
Still, the rough numbers explain the swagger. Robinhood Chain processed more than 200 million transactions in about a month, per Decrypt. Solana, by contrast, handled 133 million non-vote transactions per day on average in July.
So the line is a dig at Robinhood launching its own chain. It is not a measured compute-unit conversion, and readers should not use it as one.
The format spread within minutes. At 15:09 GMT, CATE community figure @PoorGoat_ posted a CATE spin on the same line. Copycats from other accounts quickly followed.
Many of them attached a contract address. As a result, at least one fresh SLOWLANA memecoin spun up on Pump.fun and jumped to roughly $271,000 in market cap within hours.
Buyers should stay careful here. These SLOWLANA and CATE tokens are opportunistic memecoins with no tie to the Solana Foundation. One analytics bot even flagged the new SLOWLANA dev wallet as blacklisted. None of this is financial advice.
The unity framing is only half the story. Bigger blocks add parallel headroom, yet they do not fix every jam. Notably, SIMD-0286 left the 12 million compute-unit cap on a single writable account untouched.
So one hot market account can still clog its own lane. CryptoSlate called that the bottleneck still infuriating traders.
Validators raise another concern. Reports from TechTimes flagged the active count falling toward the high hundreds as hardware bars rise. Meanwhile, the stronger reliability point is uptime, since Solana has avoided a full halt since February 2024.
For now, the Slowlana meme is a mood, not a metric. It captures a network that shipped real capacity in 2026 and wants credit for it.
The next test is demand. If usage keeps climbing toward the 100 million ceiling, the 12 million account cap and validator count will decide whether the swagger holds. Until then, expect the Slowlana joke to keep running.
