Pi Network launches Testnet Launchpad with a test token, aiming to support utility-driven token launches and expand its blockchain ecosystem.
Author: Akshat Thakur
March 16, 2026 — Pi Network launches Testnet Launchpad as part of its ongoing effort to build a utility-focused blockchain ecosystem. The initial release includes a test token and tools that allow developers and users to experiment with new token launches within the network. The update follows several announcements made during Pi Day celebrations on March 14, when the project introduced upgrades related to nodes, smart contracts, and migration processes. The Launchpad aims to support product-based token launches while prioritizing utility rather than speculation.

@PiCoreTeam Pi Launchpad on Testnet finally able to test the mechanics before Mainnet. Smart move letting pioneers learn first, no risk involved. Design 1 in action. 🔥
The initial version of the Pi Launchpad has been released as a Pi App on the Testnet with a test token! Because the Launchpad introduces new concepts for many Pioneers and uses mechanisms that differ from typical token launches in Web3, it is being introduced on Testnet first so

@PiCoreTeam @CalvinL42618319 Yea, the challenge is to implement it on the mainnet, that too timely.

Steady attention without excessive speculation.
Pi Network is a mobile-first cryptocurrency project founded in 2019 with the goal of making blockchain participation accessible to a wider audience. The platform allows users to earn Pi through a mobile application without requiring specialized hardware.
Since its launch, Pi Network has grown into one of the largest crypto communities by user count. The project claims more than 60 million participants globally, with over 17 million users completing identity verification through its KYC process.
Pi Network currently operates through a phased rollout that includes testnet development, enclosed mainnet operations, and an eventual open network phase where broader blockchain interoperability is expected.
The moment Pi Network launches Testnet Launchpad, developers gain access to a framework designed to support token launches that focus on functional applications.
The system follows a design framework outlined in the project’s Pi Requests for Comment documents. Unlike many launchpads that prioritize quick fundraising, Pi’s model requires projects to have working applications before launching tokens.
Under this structure, tokens are intended to support ecosystem activity and user engagement rather than speculative trading. The testnet version allows users to experiment with token launches using test Pi tokens within the Pi Browser environment.
The platform introduces mechanisms designed to encourage fair participation within token launches.
One feature involves staking PiPower, which allows users to gain allocation rights based on their engagement within the ecosystem. The system is designed to prioritize active participants rather than automated accounts or speculative actors.
Another component routes launch proceeds directly into liquidity pools. This structure is intended to reduce the risk of rug pulls by ensuring liquidity is immediately available after token launches.
During the test phase, users can participate in simulated launches to evaluate how the system functions before it is deployed on the main network.
The announcement that Pi Network launches Testnet Launchpad came alongside several other updates released during Pi Day 2026.
Key developments included:
Smart contract functionality is expected to enable features such as decentralized applications, subscription-based payments, and automated transactions within the ecosystem.
The project also announced the rollout of additional migrations that allow eligible users to move more of their Pi balances to the mainnet.
The decision that Pi Network launches Testnet Launchpad represents another step in the project’s effort to transition from a community-building phase to a utility-focused blockchain ecosystem.
If successful, the launchpad could allow developers to create new applications and token economies that leverage Pi Network’s large user base.
However, the project still faces challenges related to migration timelines, open network access, and broader adoption across the crypto industry.
Future progress will likely depend on whether the ecosystem can deliver functional applications and maintain trust among its growing community.
