High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The sale closed on September 2 at $166,946.50 in USDC. According to @solana, the nine winners will sit on the official profile picture and pinned post for one week. So the campaign paired viral attention with a fast donation pipeline.
The Solana Foundation ran the auction, and mallow powered the bidding site at nepal.mallow.art. Together they split the diamond logo into a 3×3 grid. As a result, each of the nine cells became its own separate auction.
The final figure of $166,946.50 is the sum of the nine winning bids. It is not a running total of every bid placed. Earlier snapshots of $150,000, $157,000, and $159,000 circulated during the sale, but those numbers are now outdated.
For context, the platform logged more than 313 bids before the close. Still, only the top bid in each zone counts toward the donation. The rest returned to their wallets automatically.
One bid towered over the rest. Rollbit, a crypto casino, took the center slot for $50,000. That single zone accounted for nearly a third of the whole total.
The other eight zones landed between $12,810 and $16,276 each. Here is the full breakdown from the auction table:
The winner mix drew quick pushback. Rollbit and 1win are both gambling brands, and 500 Casino also appeared in the bid history. So critics noted that casino and iGaming names bought most of a disaster-relief billboard.
Key milestones in Solana’s Nepal Flood Relief PFP Auction
Ice/mud/rock collapse into the Bhotekoshi–Trishuli system on the Nepal–Tibet border triggers flash floods. Nepal channels aid through the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
By September 2, the state fund reports Rs 6.36B + $6.11M raised via fiat rails. Ripple separately pledges $300K to WCK/Mercy Corps, unrelated to this auction.
@solana launches a 24-hour USDC auction on nepal.mallow.art for nine logo zones; 100% of proceeds go to Nepal flood relief, with winning logos earning a one-week PFP and pin. Powered by @mallowdotart.
@solana posts a mid-auction update — $150K raised with 9 hours remaining in the auction window.
Mallow reports $159K+ raised; 2-minute anti-snipe end phase remains active to prevent last-second bid manipulation.
Nine logos lock; @solana and mallow settle the final figure at $166,946.50 in USDC.
Mallow CTO @meditatingsloth confirms “All funds have been delivered.” Route: Solana USDC -> Ethereum USDC -> Engage Nepal (US 501c3) -> Nepal PM Disaster Relief Fund via nepalrelief.org. No public explorer hash posted yet.

The mechanics stayed simple. A bidder connected a Solana wallet, picked a zone, and locked USDC. Because the bids used a stablecoin, the charity amount did not float with the SOL price.
Each bid was binding. If someone outbid you, the escrow returned your USDC to the same wallet. Meanwhile, the highest bid per zone at close took the slot.
The sale also used anti-sniping. Once a zone timer hit two minutes, each new bid added two more minutes to that zone. Therefore the nine zones could close at slightly different times.
The proceeds do not travel straight to Nepal’s government. According to the auction terms, mallow first converts the winning USDC to USDC on Ethereum. Then it sends the donation to Engage Nepal, a US 501(c)(3) charity.
Engage Nepal is led by Scott DeLisi, a former US Ambassador to Nepal. From there, the plan routes the money to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund through an off-chain bank wire. Nepal still bans cryptocurrency, so the funds must land as dollars.
The scale is worth framing honestly. Republica reported that the relief fund had already received about Rs 6.36 billion plus $6.11 million by September 2. So this $166,946 gift is meaningful for a 24-hour auction, yet small against the state total.
The auction terms promised a public donation transaction link from both @solana and mallow. As of this report, that link has not appeared. So the strongest proof of delivery is still a founder’s word plus a screenshot.
mallow co-founder and CTO sloth wrote that “all funds have been delivered” on September 2. He also shared an image of nepalrelief.org showing $167,053 raised. However, the screenshot did not display a wallet address or a transaction hash.
The legal fine print adds another caveat. The Foundation and mallow say they are not affiliated with nepalrelief.org or the government fund. They also make no warranty about the later use of the money. A reader who only sees “100% goes to Nepal” is reading the marketing layer, not the legal one.
The next test is verification. Once organizers post the promised Ethereum transaction, anyone can trace the donation onto the chain. Until then, the delivery claim rests on trust rather than an explorer link.
The auction did not appear to move the wider market. SOL traded near $98 to $103 across the campaign window, tracking the broader market rather than the news. Meanwhile, a pump.fun memecoin called SOLCAT rallied sharply around its winning slot. That surge showed how speculation rode alongside the charity story.
For now, the Solana PFP auction stands as a fast proof of concept for turning attention into aid. Whether the on-chain receipt follows will shape how people remember the campaign. This article is informational and not financial advice.
