The Giving Block, known for facilitating cryptocurrency donations, has initiated an emergency fundraiser for victims of the California wildfires. The campaign aims to raise $2 million, with Shift4 CEO Jared Isaacman pledging to match up to $1 million in donations. Ben Pousty, COO of The Giving Block, emphasized the advantages of crypto donations, stating, “Donating crypto can help donors avoid capital gains taxes… making crypto an innovative, efficient way to give back.”
Ripple and MoonPay donated $50,000 in RLUSD stablecoin to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation (LAFD). This contribution supports firefighters battling the flames across heavily impacted areas like Pacific Palisades and Calabasas. Ripple’s Eric Van Miltenburg praised first responders, saying, “Grateful to see Ripple & MoonPay contributing to relief efforts.”
Platforms like The Giving Block have demonstrated the potential of cryptocurrencies in addressing global crises, facilitating over $200 million in donations.
