2nd May 2026 – The Aptos blockchain processed a record 12.3 million transactions yesterday. That figure crosses the 10 million daily threshold for the first time, placing Aptos among the highest-throughput networks in crypto.

Analytics platform Chainspect and the official Aptos account both confirmed the surge. The milestone caps a 528% increase in Aptos daily transactions since January, when volumes hovered near 1.4 million.

Only a handful of networks consistently operate at this scale. Solana, Sui, Base, BNB Chain, and Tron are among them. Aptos now joins that group.
Aptos is a Layer-1 blockchain built for speed and scalability. Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching founded Aptos Labs in 2021 after leading development on Meta’s Diem stablecoin project.
Before launch, the team raised over $350 million from a16z, Tiger Global, and Jump Crypto. The mainnet went live in October 2022. Aptos uses the Move programming language, originally built for Diem, which prevents common vulnerabilities like re-entrancy attacks.
At its core, Aptos runs on Block-STM, a parallel execution engine. Because of this architecture, non-conflicting transactions process at the same time rather than one by one. As a result, the network delivers sub-second finality and block times around 30 milliseconds.
Theoretical throughput exceeds 160,000 transactions per second. Real-world peaks have reached tens of thousands of TPS during high-traffic bursts.
Most Layer-1 blockchains struggle to break 1 to 2 million daily transactions. So, hitting 12.3 million signals genuine traction, not a one-off hype cycle.
The growth reflects organic activity across DeFi, gaming, and real-world asset tokenization. For example, projects like Aave, multiple DEXes, and viral gaming apps have all driven sustained volume on the network.
According to on-chain data, stablecoin market cap on Aptos has climbed toward $1.7 billion. Meanwhile, total value locked sits near $276 million. Daily active users reportedly number in the hundreds of thousands.
For context, a previous single-day spike in 2024 hit 326 million transactions. That surge came from the Tapos cat-clicker game and faded quickly. In contrast, the current growth is broader and more sustained.
This record also intensifies the rivalry between Aptos and Sui. Both chains emerged from Meta’s Diem project and both use the Move language.
As a result, they compete directly for developer mindshare, liquidity, and ecosystem growth. Aptos now has a concrete data point to support its case: real-world transaction volume at scale.
Early skepticism around Move language adoption has faded because the developer ecosystem keeps maturing. The safety guarantees of resource-oriented programming have attracted projects seeking alternatives to Solidity.
According to CoinMarketCap, APT trades around $0.99 to $1.00 with a market cap near $800 million. The circulating supply sits at roughly 807 million out of a total 2.1 billion APT.
The price remains well below all-time highs. Ongoing token unlocks also create supply pressure. A fee-burn mechanism could tighten supply dynamics if usage stays elevated.
Market reaction has been positive but measured. The sustained volume growth supports a utility narrative over short-term price speculation. This is not financial advice.
The key question is whether 12.3 million becomes the new baseline. Analysts will track daily active users, TVL growth, and fee revenue to gauge sustainability.
Ecosystem expansion is the next catalyst. New dApp launches in gaming, DeFi, and AI-integrated applications could push volumes higher. Similarly, partnerships with traditional finance for RWA tokenization may attract institutional capital.
The competitive landscape remains fierce. Solana, Sui, and Ethereum Layer-2 solutions continue aggressive development. In addition, macro factors like U.S. regulatory clarity and broader market cycles will impact all high-performance chains.
Aptos’ technical roadmap includes further Block-STM optimizations. Any breakthrough toward sustained 100,000+ TPS could cement its position among top-tier contenders.
The 12.3 million transaction day proves Aptos can handle real demand at scale. The focus now shifts from “can it perform?” to “can it keep growing?” Developers, investors, and users will be watching closely.
