@arkham I'd be careful. MC already $100K+, early buyers are eyeing the exits. Don't be their exit liquidity.

@arkham Interesting to see Alameda still moving large amounts. Makes you wonder about their strategy with ETH. Are they positioning for a possible play? Their BTC and SOL holdings are pretty hefty too. Curious times.

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The transfer landed in a known Wintermute deposit address, and on-chain trackers flagged it within hours. Analysts quickly framed the Alameda ETH transfer as a fresh round of estate selling.
Still, no dump hit the order books that anyone could see. So the story is really about intent, not a confirmed sale.
The wallet moved exactly 23,639.23 ETH at 20:54:59 UTC on 22 September. The transaction settled in block 26,035,546, according to Etherscan.
The coins left address 0x1018 and passed through a “Wintermute 5” contract using a sendMultiSig call. Then they settled in the Wintermute deposit cluster at 0xCe84. Because the path ran into a market maker, it looked like a delivery rather than an internal custody shuffle.
Arkham reported the $65.05 million figure first. Soon after, Lookonchain and PeckShield confirmed the same 23,639 ETH leg to Wintermute.
Two numbers are circulating, and they measure different things. The $65.05 million figure covers the single largest transaction. Meanwhile, the $75.32 million figure covers a wider batch.
Analyst EmberCN reported that the estate routed 27,372 ETH through six wallets to the same Wintermute cluster. So the $65 million leg sits inside that larger, reported total rather than contradicting it.
Only the 23,639 ETH leg carries a published explorer hash so far. Therefore treat the six-wallet number as an analyst aggregation, not a single verified transaction.
Recent FTX estate wallet movements
An FTX/Alameda-labeled wallet sent about $8.17M in ZRO to Wintermute.
Alameda-linked wallets unstaked 198,425 SOL, worth about $16M, and moved it to an estate wallet.
Arkham reported that an Alameda-labeled wallet sent about $9.47M in SOL to Coinbase Prime.
An Alameda-labeled wallet sent about $65.05M in ETH to Wintermute. A separate analyst counted 27,372 ETH across six wallets in the broader batch.
Watch the remaining SOL and BTC wallets for follow-on transfers. Neither asset is confirmed as part of this ETH transfer.
The label still reads Alameda Research, but the trading firm died in November 2022. Today the FTX Recovery Trust controls this inventory under Chapter 11 case 22-11068 in Delaware.
John J. Ray III still leads the wind-down. As a result, this Alameda ETH transfer reflects court-supervised monetization, not a revived trading desk.
Arkham, Lookonchain, and PeckShield all keep the Alameda tag on the cluster. That tag is the industry standard, even though operational control moved to the estate years ago.
Alameda-labeled wallets: ETH transfer and remaining on-chain holdings
A Wintermute deposit address is not a Binance or Coinbase hot wallet. Instead, it is where the market maker takes delivery of inventory from a client.
After delivery, Wintermute can sell the block, warehouse it, hedge it on perps, or work it off slowly. Because of that flexibility, the transfer signals intent to dispose, not a confirmed order-book hit.
That is why Lookonchain wrote “to sell” and EmberCN wrote “commissioning them to sell.” However, neither claim proves the coins reached a buyer. So far, Wintermute has issued no public statement on this batch.
This is not the first time the estate has leaned on Wintermute. Back in May 2024, the same cluster sent about 2,000 ETH plus 860 XAUT, worth roughly $8.3 million, to the market maker.
The pattern continued in 2026. On 31 March, an Alameda-labeled wallet sent 4.126 million ZRO to Wintermute, worth about $8.17 million. ZRO then slipped about 6%. So this latest Alameda ETH transfer fits a routine, not a surprise.
Even after the transfer, the estate still holds plenty. Arkham tagged about $453 million on-chain across the Alameda cluster on 23 September.
SOL dominates that pile at roughly 2.434 million tokens, or about $287 million. Bitcoin follows at 698.6 BTC, worth about $60 million. The rest sits in stablecoins and residual FTT.
That $453 million figure matches the Trust’s audited digital-asset line from 31 March 2026. Notably, it fell from $588 million at the end of 2025, so the estate keeps trimming steadily.
Despite the selling talk, ETH did not crash. The token closed 22 September near $2,744 on OKX, down less than 1% on the day.
ETH had already rallied hard on 21 September, so the market absorbed the news calmly. On 22 September, the token traded between $2,716 and $2,807 on OKX before settling near the middle. Meanwhile, PANews noted about $162 million in spot ETH ETF inflows the prior day, a clear counter-flow.
A $65 million block is also small next to daily ETH spot and perp volume. Therefore no clean “transfer print then dump candle” appears in the same-day data.
The estate has already returned roughly $10 to $11 billion across five distribution rounds. In fact, most customer classes now sit above 100% of their November 2022 claim value. The fifth distribution of about $900 million began on 31 July 2026.
For now, the leftover SOL stack looks like the real overhang, not this ETH clip. So watch the Wintermute cluster and the estate’s SOL wallets for the next move.
