9th October 2025 – Biometric login replaces seed phrases as Infinex begins beta testing a browser extension for cross-chain dApp access and transaction signing.
Infinex is testing a new Chrome extension that lets users access top crypto dApps using only their phone’s fingerprint or Face ID. The system replaces seed phrases with biometric passkeys tied to Apple or Google accounts, offering easier access and improved phishing protection.
Founder Kain Warwick, speaking at Token2049 in Singapore, described the move as a major usability upgrade. “Figuring out seed phrase security… has been a filter for getting people on chain,” he said. Passkeys, he added, provide a better solution for most users.
The Infinex extension supports login, transaction signing, and asset management across 100+ dApps on 20 chains. Early testing has begun with around 40 DeFi apps, including Aave, Uniswap, Hyperliquid, Polymarket, OpenSea, and Jupiter. Supported chains include Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, and Polygon.
With a paired phone, users can securely approve transactions using biometrics. Session keys reduce friction for repeated transactions. The extension’s Swidge feature also enables gasless, bridgeless swaps between networks, directly in-browser.
The passkey model doesn’t require seed phrases. Keys stay on the phone’s secure enclave and are domain-locked to prevent phishing. For example, a passkey registered for Uniswap won’t work on a lookalike phishing site.
Still, passkeys aren’t as secure as hardware wallets. Warwick acknowledged this tradeoff: “If you’ve got a billion dollars, then you probably should have a different OpSec approach.”
To reduce risks further, Infinex limits access to whitelisted dApps and integrates real-time threat monitoring via Blockaid.
Despite being available in major browsers since 2022, passkey adoption in crypto has been slow. Binance led the way in 2023, followed by Coinbase and Gemini. Other wallets like Safe, Phantom, and MetaMask have begun offering passkey options, but many users remain on traditional seed phrase systems.
Infinex is looking to change that. The platform currently secures over $500M in TVL, all passkey-protected. Patrons, the project’s NFT-based early adopters, have already driven $100M in volume during prior beta tests.
The Chrome extension went live for alpha testers on October 7–8. It is currently available to holders of Patron NFTs and select Discord members. A broader rollout is expected soon after beta refinements.
The extension works on desktop Chrome browsers and pairs with mobile phones for authentication. It supports both EVM and non-EVM chains.
Community feedback has been positive, with early users praising the clean interface and reduced click friction. Some are already calling it a “MetaMask replacement.” A full release will bring support for even more dApps, along with tighter Infinex Connect SDK integrations.
