Coinbase is one of the largest crypto platforms globally, serving more than 100 million users and holding over $200 billion in assets under custody. The company has gradually expanded beyond spot crypto trading into derivatives, custody, and institutional services.
The firm previously explored tokenized equities but paused those efforts due to regulatory uncertainty. With improved regulatory clarity in the United States, Coinbase has returned to equities through a licensed broker-dealer structure. The new service is operated through Coinbase Capital Markets, a FINRA-regulated and SIPC-protected entity for securities trading.
Coinbase launches 24/5 stock trading with a unified portfolio that allows users to hold stocks, ETFs, and cryptocurrencies in the same account. Users can fund trades instantly using USD or USDC balances already held on the platform.
The interface enables seamless switching between asset classes without transferring funds between separate accounts. The feature is designed to reduce friction for users who actively trade both crypto and traditional securities. The unified portfolio model reflects Coinbase’s strategy to integrate multiple financial products under a single platform.
Coinbase launches 24/5 stock trading with commission-free execution for self-directed trades. Users can purchase fractional shares of stocks and ETFs starting from as little as one dollar.
The platform supports more than 8,000 U.S.-listed securities at launch, covering major equities and exchange-traded funds. Extended trading hours allow users to react to earnings announcements and market developments outside regular trading sessions. While commissions are removed, other costs such as spreads and extended-hours liquidity conditions may still apply.
