September 2, 2025 Bitget has announced a major strategic move to strengthen BGB’s role in Web3 payments, transferring 440 million tokens to the Morph Foundation. The deal cements Bitget BGB Morph as a core partnership, with BGB set to become the gas and governance token of Morph Chain.
Bitget confirmed it will transfer all BGB tokens under its control 440 million to the Morph Foundation. Half of the tokens, 220 million, will be permanently burned in a single action. The remaining 220 million will be locked and released at a rate of 2% per month.
This allocation will support ecosystem growth, liquidity incentives, and education, while making Morph the permanent onchain home of BGB.
With the shift, Bitget BGB Morph will establish BGB as the native token of Morph Chain. BGB will power transaction fees, governance decisions, and payments across the ecosystem. It will also underpin settlement and PayFi activity alongside stablecoins.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, said:
“With this commitment to the Morph Foundation, BGB is entering a new chapter as the gas and governance token of Morph. This upgrade expands BGB into the utility token for the next era of onchain consumer finance.”
Morph will retain its brand and leadership, continuing its mission as a Layer 2 focused on payments. The chain aims to become the next-generation Web3 payment infrastructure, integrating stablecoins, wallets, DeFi, and global providers into one ecosystem.
Colin Goltra, CEO of Morph, noted the significance of the move:
“Through this strategic initiative, we are excited for Morph to become the home of Bitget’s onchain initiatives and to support millions of BGB holders worldwide.”
The Morph Foundation, a decentralized non-profit, will manage BGB’s long-term roadmap. The updated burn mechanism will link directly to Morph network activity, reducing total supply until it reaches 100 million.
Bitget Wallet, with 120 million users, will bring native integrations to Morph, giving developers access to one of the largest onchain audiences. Hackathons, builder programs, and partnerships will expand the ecosystem through Morph Rails.
BGB is already listed on exchanges such as Bitget, MEXC, and Bitfinex, where it provides fee discounts and Launchpool participation. With the Bitget BGB Morph deal, its role expands from exchange utility to a native settlement and governance token for payments at scale.
Karry Cheung, CEO of Bitget Wallet, added:
“BGB has found its home onchain with Morph, marking a new chapter in its journey. Over the next 12 months, we will see an acceleration of BGB migration and seamless Web3 payments.”
The Bitget BGB Morph partnership signals a new phase for BGB, transforming it into a settlement, governance, and payment token for millions of users. With 220 million tokens burned and another 220 million locked for ecosystem growth, the collaboration positions Morph as a hub for global onchain payments and consumer finance.
