March 8, 2026 — Basketball.fun Rug Pull Accusations are spreading across the crypto community after users claimed the platform stopped communicating following its launch. NBA veteran Tristan Thompson promoted the blockchain-based fantasy basketball project, which promised tokenized player assets and competitive tournaments.

@bandosei Never heard about this “project” I feel that these casino-style coins are becoming less and less reliable. In case the word "casino" wasn't literal enough, of course.

Steady attention without excessive speculation.
Basketball.fun launched in September 2025 as a blockchain-powered fantasy sports platform designed to tokenize NBA players. The project was backed by Tristan Thompson, a longtime NBA player known for winning an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The platform was built on the Somnia Layer-1 blockchain. The project aimed to combine fantasy basketball, prediction markets, and digital asset ownership.
Users could purchase digital packs containing tokenized player shares. These shares were meant to be used in fantasy competitions where performance and fan sentiment influenced player value.
The concept positioned Basketball.fun as a new form of interactive sports entertainment built on blockchain technology.
The Basketball.fun Rug Pull Accusations began circulating after users reported that core platform features were missing after launch.
Participants claim they purchased digital packs and premium mega boxes expecting to trade or use player shares within the ecosystem. However, users say the marketplace required for trading these assets has not been released.
Without the marketplace, the player shares cannot be traded or monetized. This has led some users to claim their funds are effectively locked inside the platform. Community frustration grew when the project’s official communication channels reportedly stopped posting updates for several weeks.
A viral post on X compiled dozens of promotional posts from crypto influencers and key opinion leaders who previously promoted the platform. The thread highlighted early promotional tweets alongside current complaints from users who claim the project has gone silent.
Several users accused the project of running promotional campaigns and giveaways to drive pack sales before development slowed. Some critics labeled the project a “cash grab,” while others questioned the role of influencers who promoted the launch.
Despite the accusations, the project team has not publicly addressed the claims at the time of reporting.
Key milestones in the development and controversy surrounding the Basketball.fun fantasy sports platform
NBA player Tristan Thompson collaborates with Somnia blockchain, Improbable CEO Herman Narula, and co-founder Hadi Teherany to develop Basketball.fun, a fantasy platform tokenizing NBA player performance and fan engagement.
Basketball.fun is formally announced, integrating fantasy gaming and prediction markets on Somnia’s Layer-1 blockchain while emphasizing real-time player valuations without a native token.
Media outlets highlight the project’s goal of combining sports analytics, blockchain infrastructure, and gamified fantasy markets for transparent on-chain fan engagement.
KOL promotions, giveaways, and endorsements circulate across social media, marketing the platform as a next-generation blockchain basketball experience.
A teaser video posted on X announces the upcoming launch on January 19, showcasing features such as ripping packs, pulling players, and building basketball portfolios.
The platform goes live, allowing users to purchase digital packs, mega boxes, and tokenized player shares, initially receiving positive feedback for its real-stats-driven fantasy gameplay.
The team posts its last major update before communication slows, with development continuing but fewer public announcements.
A viral X thread accuses the project of rug-pull tactics due to silence and missing features. The team responds with a roadmap including multi-chain deposits (March 20), phase-2 trading (April 18), refund options, and early-user boosts.
