August 25, 2026 – X crypto trade buttons are coming soon, according to Nikita Bier, the former head of product at X. He said the buy and sell buttons will sit inside Cashtags, the feature that already shows live Solana and Ethereum charts in posts.

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
Bier posted the claim on August 25, 2026, in a reply on X. Importantly, it is not an official announcement from X, xAI, X Money, or Elon Musk. He stepped down as head of product this month and now serves as an adviser.
Bier wrote that he built Cashtags so people could add Solana and Ethereum charts to posts. He then added that trade buttons were “coming soon.” Users can also paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens, he said.
The full quote came in a reply defending his record on X. So the context matters here. This was a personal statement, not a product launch or a dated roadmap.
As a result, the “coming soon” line carries no timeline. Bier gave no launch date, no testing cohort, and no confirmation that the buttons are live. Still, the post spread fast across crypto X.
Cashtags launched in April 2026 for iPhone users in the US and Canada. The feature detects a $ticker or a pasted contract address, then surfaces a live price chart inside X. It also shows related posts.
Because Cashtags runs on Solana rails, the backend leans on Solana projects. Helius, Birdeye, and Dialect all power parts of the system. Solana’s official account even posted, “X Cashtags are here. Powered by Solana.”
The rollout landed hard. According to early reporting, Cashtags drove an estimated $1 billion in related volume within 48 hours. Trade buttons would add one-tap buy and sell actions next to that existing chart widget.
Timeline: X’s progression from payments licensing and Visa-powered wallet infrastructure to X Money, crypto discovery tools, stablecoin discussions, and the reported next step of one-tap trading links.
X Payments LLC, a subsidiary of X Corp, begins systematically obtaining state money-transmitter licenses and registers with FinCEN as a Money Services Business. By June 2024, the company holds licenses in at least 29 states, establishing the regulatory foundation for future financial products.
X Payments continues its regulatory expansion and reaches more than 40 U.S. states. Later reporting places the footprint at approximately 41 states plus Washington, D.C., although New York and Massachusetts remain notable holdouts during parts of the rollout.
X CEO Linda Yaccarino announces a partnership with Visa for the forthcoming X Money Account. Visa Direct is planned to support wallet funding, debit-card-linked peer-to-peer payments and bank transfers, establishing the first major payments infrastructure partnership for X’s financial platform.
X Money moves through internal testing and then limited external beta access. Early demonstrations show features including a yield-bearing balance interface, while Elon Musk signals that broader public access is targeted for 2026.
X launches Cashtags for iPhone users in the U.S. and Canada, adding live price charts for SOL and ETH and contract-address support for newer tokens. The feature uses infrastructure from Helius, Birdeye and Dialect, creating an initial crypto discovery layer inside X.
X Money becomes available to a subset of U.S. Premium+ subscribers. The initial product remains fiat-focused, offering wallet functionality, peer-to-peer transfers, a Visa debit card and yield of up to 6% through its banking partners. Public P2P transactions begin appearing shortly after launch.
Access to X Money expands to additional U.S. Premium and Premium+ users. The service remains fiat-only, with no confirmed native crypto or stablecoin functionality. Meanwhile, X’s New York money-transmitter license becomes effective on July 23, further strengthening its U.S. regulatory coverage.
Reports indicate that X is exploring the possibility of paying creators in stablecoins, with USDC among the options discussed. However, the initiative remains exploratory, and X Money itself continues to operate as a fiat-focused product.
Former X product chief Nikita Bier, now an adviser, says Cashtags already supports Solana and Ethereum price charts and contract addresses, with trade buttons “coming soon.” The statement points toward a potential transition from crypto discovery to one-tap trading access, although X has not announced an official launch date, trading partner, custody model or fee structure.
The next milestones remain open. X could introduce partner-powered trading links through Cashtags, expand X Money beyond fiat payments, or eventually integrate stablecoin settlement. However, no confirmed launch date, trading partner, custody structure, supported assets or fee model has been announced. Broader U.S. access and any international rollout also remain pending.
X has said before that it will not execute trades or act as a brokerage. Instead, the company builds tools and links out to partners. Canadian Cashtags users, for example, already saw links to Wealthsimple.
So the X crypto trade buttons would likely route orders through an outside broker or a DEX aggregator. Custody would then stay with the user or a licensed partner, not X itself.
Users would probably connect a wallet or finish partner KYC first. Self-custody stays possible through a wallet link. A custodial path stays possible through a licensed entity. However, X has confirmed none of these details yet.
The market barely flinched. Solana traded near $99 to $102 on August 25, up roughly 1% to 6% depending on the snapshot. On August 24, it closed around $95 to $98.56 on volume near $5.8 billion.
Ethereum moved little too. It sat around $2,481 on August 25, up about 0.85% from $2,460 the day before. So no clear price spike ties directly to Bier’s post.
Analysts also pointed to broader drivers, including US Treasury bond-buyback commentary. Meanwhile, DOGE and other X-adjacent tokens showed no standout reaction in the data reviewed.
Some coverage framed the news as “X is adding” trading for 600 million users. Yet the primary source is a single reply from a former product lead. So the framing runs ahead of the facts.
Skeptics raised two points. First, Bier no longer runs product day to day. Second, one-tap trading of new, unverified tokens invites scam and honeypot risk. Secondary reports flagged KYC and securities questions too.
Supported tokens beyond SOL, ETH, and new contract tokens remain unknown. Fees, execution partners, and geographies stay unknown as well. For now, X’s “we do not broker trades” stance is the clearest official-adjacent framing.
The next signal to watch is any official word from X, xAI, or X Money. So far, no blog post, help-center page, or app teardown has confirmed the trade buttons. Bier’s reply remains the only source.
If the buttons ship, they would likely start in the existing Cashtags markets, the US and Canada on iOS. Regulatory approvals and partner deals would shape the rest. Until then, treat the X crypto trade buttons as planned, not live.
