@calilyliu Also if this a fault from your team side then it’s far worse cause how can you sell more tickets than a venue’s max capacity. I believe that this isn’t the case but presenting the situation to the world with such statement is a pr nightmare overall.
We put Solana on the big screen because that’s the big heart Solana has for the Chinese community, and that’s the warm welcome we are so thankful to feel from the Chinese community. Due to the publicity, event registrations quadrupled overnight, far exceeding the event cap we https://t.co/6mULnGi17q

@calilyliu @GuiBibeau Once this happened to the company I used to work at. Government literally waits till the last moment to give such notice & from what I remember it’s all lobbied strategy to make the losses exponential & tank the companies reputation/impression.

@calilyliu @vibhu If you keep a low profile, things will be done secretly. In fact, many people came to join in the fun, and at the beginning, they kept a low profile and opened it to relevant personnel.

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The agenda listed a 09:30 to 17:30 run time at the Jing An Shangri-La. The hotel sits in Shanghai’s Jing’an district. Instead of doors opening, attendees found them shut. According to eyewitness posts, 8 to 9 officers stood guard. The crowd then waited outside for more than an hour.
The first public account came from attendee 洋子Olivia (@knowyourself518) at about 10:54 local time. She described a temporary suspension, the officers on site, and the long wait to get in.
In her post, one attendee was asked why he had come. He paused, then said he was a blogger there “to ride the traffic.” The dark joke spread quickly across Chinese crypto social media.
So far, nobody has reported any detentions. Still, several eyewitnesses said officers questioned people about their purpose. As of early-afternoon checks, nobody had confirmed the evening dinner as cancelled.
Around midday, organizers emailed everyone who had registered. They said they postponed the morning agenda because of “logistical considerations at the venue.” The email also apologized for the short notice.
Then it promised that a new schedule would reach registered guests through Luma and email. At the time of reporting, organizers had not set a new date.
Notably, the organizers did not mention the officers at all. Meanwhile, the official Solana Accelerate China page and the Luma listing still showed the event. Both marked it “Event Full,” with no public postponement notice in early checks.
This is not the first time a Solana event has stalled on the mainland. Back in October 2025, local police cut short the Accelerate APAC stop in Shenzhen. Organizers then cited venue overcapacity and cancelled the final hackathon session for public safety.
Earlier, in March 2026, Solana called off a planned Shanghai Builder Station opening ceremony. The team pointed to market sentiment and external factors. Even so, it did not shelve the project itself.
China has banned crypto trading and fundraising since 2021. As a result, regulators led by the People’s Bank of China treat mainland crypto promotion as illegal activity. Developer and infrastructure talks sometimes proceed, yet high-profile branding stays sensitive. Hong Kong, by contrast, runs a separate licensed regime.
The postponement landed days after a splashy promotional push. Around October 14, Solana unveiled a prominent Shanghai office with Lujiazui skyline views. It also ran a city light-show tied to the launch.
The agenda itself stayed cautious. It centered on AI agents, robotics, Physical AI, and developer tooling. It avoided token trading and meme-coin topics entirely. That framing still did not keep the officers away.
Because of that contrast, some Chinese commentators argued the loud marketing invited scrutiny. They advised a lower profile next time. However, the exact reason the officers appeared remains unknown.
Enforcement presence can signal a permit check, a capacity issue, a complaint, or a routine inspection. It does not always mean a crackdown. For now, no local authority has commented. In addition, no Solana Foundation statement beyond the attendee email surfaced in major coverage.
Shanghai event timeline · October 16, 2026 · All times CST (UTC+8)
Solana Accelerate China was scheduled to open at Jing An Shangri-La in Shanghai.
Arriving attendees reported 8–9 law-enforcement officers at the venue. The officers’ exact arrival time remains unclear.
Attendees described being kept outside the venue for more than an hour, with some questioned about their purpose.
An attendee posted that the event had been temporarily suspended, describing officers on site and blocked entry.
Organizers cited “venue logistical considerations” and said registered attendees would receive a revised schedule once confirmed.
No revised schedule or official explanation for the officers’ presence had been announced. The evening dinner and remaining tour stops were not confirmed cancelled.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao amplified the story to his large following. In a quote post, he wrote: “Sad to see. Looks like they really didn’t know the local policies? But it’s not the first time either, same thing happened less than a year ago.”
His comment tied the Shanghai delay to the 2025 Shenzhen incident. Consequently, much of the global discussion framed the event as another sign of mainland regulatory risk. Several outlets, including TechFlow and ChainCatcher, reported the same attendee accounts.
Across Chinese crypto circles, the mood turned resigned and ironic. Many noted the gap between the recent office celebration and the shuttered doors. Others simply called it the third stumble in a row.
The reports did not move the market in any obvious way. On October 16, SOL traded in the roughly $105 to $106 range. That marked a gain of about 4% from prior lows near $100. The move looked like a technical rebound rather than a reaction to the Shanghai news.
In short, the postponement produced no clear market impact. None of this is financial advice, and traders should treat single-day price swings with caution.
For now, the rest of the tour is still on paper. The schedule lists Hangzhou on October 18, Shenzhen on October 20, and Beijing on October 22. Whether each stop proceeds, moves, or slips remains open.
Above all, two questions still hang over Solana Accelerate China. First, will organizers reschedule the Shanghai sessions or relocate them? Second, will any Chinese authority or Solana itself explain what happened? Until then, registered guests keep watching Luma and their inboxes for the next update.
