Samsung Wallet USDC Set for Late-October US Rollout

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.

The feature is not live yet. At launch, Samsung Wallet USDC will span 82 million compatible US Galaxy devices. So the reach is large from day one.

What Samsung Wallet USDC Will Do at Launch

Users can buy USDC inside the app, where it appears as the default dollar stablecoin under “Buy Stablecoin.” They can also hold a balance and send it out.

Samsung pitches this as simple by design. Woncheol Chai, who heads the Digital Wallet Team, said eligible Galaxy users can start without installing another app or managing private keys.

First, they can send USDC to compatible external crypto wallets internationally. On that path, Samsung charges no transfer fee.

Second, they can send money to qualifying bank accounts in more than 60 countries. Funds then arrive in the recipient’s local currency, and fees vary by destination. The app shows those fees before you confirm.

Merchant spend is not in scope yet. Still, Samsung said future options may include paying online or tapping an eligible Galaxy device in store.

Who Can Use the Feature

Eligibility is narrow at first. According to Samsung, users must be US residents who are 18 or older with a Samsung Account.

The device also matters. It must be a Galaxy phone that supports Samsung Wallet and runs Android 13 or higher.

Samsung requires identity verification and biometric authentication before any transfer. It also blocks transfers to sanctioned jurisdictions. Compatible wallets are third-party wallets or exchange accounts that support USDC on a network the app supports.

Who Actually Holds the USDC

This is not self-custody, and Samsung does not hold the funds. Instead, two partners run the money layer behind the scenes.

Bastion acts as the licensed stablecoin custodian and infrastructure provider. According to Samsung’s newsroom, Bastion powers the cross-border framework and sits under US financial regulators.

Coinbase then serves as the official sub-custodian. So your balance sits in Coinbase Prime Vault, not in a wallet whose keys you control.

Samsung is explicit on this point. It says it is not a bank, a money transmitter, or a digital asset custodian. It also does not hold customer funds.

Solana and Sui Carry the Transfers

Two blockchains do the settlement work. The Solana Foundation said Samsung Wallet and Samsung Pay will support stablecoins on Solana.

For now, US users can send cross-border USDC starting the last week of October. More markets may follow later, subject to local rules.

Sui is the second named rail. Coverage of the Sui side describes gasless USDC sends, so users do not need to hold SUI to move funds.

USDC supply backs up the scale here. DefiLlama pegs total USDC near $73.83 billion, with roughly $6.94 billion on Solana and about $309 million on Sui.

How Samsung Got Here

This launch builds on an earlier deal. In October 2025, Samsung and Coinbase went live with a tie-up for more than 75 million US Galaxy owners. Samsung Pay became a Coinbase funding method back then.

Then, in July 2026, Samsung teased native stablecoin support at Galaxy Unpacked in London. It showed a USDC mockup, yet named no issuer, chain, or date.

Now the gaps are filled. Samsung frames the step as one that follows a clearer US stablecoin framework.

What “Powered by Coinbase” Really Means

Coinbase amplified the deal fast. Its official account posted first, and then chief executive Brian Armstrong quoted that post early on October 8.

Armstrong wrote that Coinbase is working with Samsung to bring USDC to Samsung Wallet, powered by Coinbase. Here, “powered by Coinbase” points to custody and stablecoin operations through Prime. It does not mean your personal Coinbase exchange account.

The phrasing sparked a chain debate. Some replies asked whether Base or Ethereum are included, since only Solana and Sui are confirmed so far. Samsung has not answered that question publicly.

Market Reaction and Open Questions

The market move is narrative, not mechanical, at least for now. USDC traded at about $1.000 on October 8, 2026, and the peg barely flinched.

Coinbase stock gave no clear signal either. COIN closed its last session on October 7 at $178.45, down 3.92%, on below-average volume. That move predates the evening announcement, so do not read it as a reaction.

Plenty stays unknown. The exact launch day stays unclear. The full country list, spreads, partner fees, and tap-to-pay timing are also open. None of this is financial advice.

What Comes Next for Samsung Wallet USDC

The next marker is simple. A specific launch day in the last week of October should confirm whether the schedule holds.

After that, watch two things. First, watch whether Samsung adds chains like Base or Ethereum. Second, watch whether merchant spend, online or in store, moves from a future option to a shipped feature.

If the rollout lands as planned, Samsung Wallet USDC puts digital dollars onto 82 million US phones. No seed phrase required. That alone makes the late-October window worth tracking.
