May 15, 2025 – The Qubic development team, in collaboration with node operators, has unveiled a new framework that allows miners to perform Monero ($XMR) mining while simultaneously securing the Qubic network. This marks a significant milestone in the blockchain space, demonstrating the power and utility of Useful Proof of Work (uPoW), where mining efforts contribute to both securing the network and generating economic value.
The integration of Monero mining with Qubic’s network security is a practical application of uPoW, a concept that aligns the resources used for mining with tangible, useful tasks. In this case, the mining power that secures Qubic’s network can now also be leveraged for generating economic value through Monero mining.
This innovative framework is designed to create a win-win scenario: miners contribute to network security while also mining Monero, thereby generating value without compromising the integrity or safety of the Qubic network.
Although the feature has been under development for an extended period due to its complexity, it is now undergoing active testing and is expected to continue for at least another week. This demonstrates Qubic’s commitment to innovation and thorough testing before introducing new technologies to its network.
The introduction of uPoW is just the beginning. As the technology evolves, Qubic plans to unlock new utility, including AI training, enterprise compute, and other valuable workloads, further expanding the scope and capabilities of the Qubic network.
The integration of Monero mining with Qubic’s security protocol highlights the potential for Useful Proof of Work to revolutionize how blockchain networks utilize mining resources. Instead of traditional Proof of Work (PoW), which can often be seen as resource-intensive without direct benefits to network functionality, uPoW creates a dual-purpose framework, driving both security and economic value.
As uPoW continues to evolve, it could unlock a wide range of applications in enterprise computing, decentralized finance (DeFi), and AI, among others, opening up entirely new possibilities for miners and network participants.
The integration of Monero mining into Qubic’s ecosystem marks an exciting development in the blockchain space, combining network security and economic activity in a seamless, efficient manner. As the testing phase progresses, this new functionality promises to shape the future of blockchain mining and proof of work applications.
