March 24, 2026- Pump.fun Locks Creator Fee Redirection to One-Time Change as part of a new update aimed at reducing manipulation in memecoin launches. The change targets common issues like fee abuse and copycat behavior, but it does not fully solve the deeper structural problems that define the memecoin market.

@a1lon9 this is actually a solid change alon removes a big trust issue and at least limits how much creators can mess with holders
Vamping & griefing are some of the biggest pain points of recent times Although it's impossible to solve 100% of this behavior at the blockchain layer, we can still try to mitigate where we can Today’s update is a small step in that direction. Here’s how it works 👇

Pump.fun confirmed the update through co-founder Alon in a detailed X thread, outlining immediate changes to how creator fees are handled across all tokens on the platform. (Source: Alon X Thread)
The update introduces a strict rule: creator fee redirection can now only happen once. After that, the setting becomes permanently locked unless a full CTO process is executed. The move directly targets vamping and griefing, two behaviors that have shaped recent memecoin dynamics.
Pump.fun launched in 2024 on Solana as a frictionless memecoin launchpad. Anyone can deploy a token instantly, which led to explosive growth in new coins and trading activity.
The Coin Admin role gave creators full control over fee distribution. That flexibility turned into a weakness.
Creators could redirect fees after momentum built, often triggering panic and sell-offs. At the same time, copycat tokens competed aggressively for attention, amplifying the chaos.
Pump.fun Locks Creator Fee Redirection at a time when trust is one of the biggest issues in memecoin trading. Fee changes have become one of the fastest ways to destroy confidence.
This update introduces predictability. Users now know the fee structure cannot be changed repeatedly after launch.
That alone removes a common exit signal. It also makes it harder for opportunistic creators to exploit short-term hype cycles. Still, the improvement is limited. The core dynamics of memecoins remain unchanged.
This update addresses one surface-level issue, not the entire system. Vamping still exists. Anyone can launch a competing token within minutes and redirect attention.
Griefing can evolve. Instead of fee manipulation, creators may shift toward liquidity games or narrative-driven exits. There is also a tradeoff. Reducing flexibility limits abuse, but it also removes legitimate use cases where creators might need to adjust fee structures over time.
And most importantly, trust in memecoins is not just about mechanics. It is about behavior, and that cannot be enforced fully on-chain.
Every new token now launches with creator fees directed to the deployer by default. The Coin Admin gets exactly one opportunity to redirect those fees.
Once used, the setting locks permanently. If unused, the option remains available for later use. Existing tokens follow two paths. Custom fee setups are now locked as they are.
Default setups receive the same one-time redirect option. Alon framed the intent clearly: “users always get what they bought in for, or better.”
