The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), part of Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), first announced plans to develop a tokenized securities platform in January 2026. The initiative focused on creating a dedicated Digital Trading Platform for 24/7 trading, instant on-chain settlement, and stablecoin-based funding of tokenized U.S.-listed equities and ETFs, subject to regulatory approval.
This built on ICE’s ongoing digital asset strategy, which included preparations for tokenized collateral in clearing and earlier industry pilots in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. Securitize, founded in 2017 as a leader in real-world asset tokenization, has tokenized more than $4 billion in assets through partnerships with major institutions including BlackRock, Apollo, KKR, Hamilton Lane, and VanEck. BlackRock led a $47 million strategic funding round in Securitize in 2024 and selected the firm as the transfer agent for its flagship BUIDL tokenized fund. The company’s established SEC-registered transfer agent status and proven infrastructure made it the natural first digital transfer agent partner for NYSE’s new platform.
How NYSE’s tokenized equities platform changes market structure compared to traditional trading
Under the partnership, Securitize has been named the New York Stock Exchange’s first official digital transfer agent. The company will be responsible for issuing, managing, and transferring blockchain-native tokenized versions of U.S. equities and ETFs directly on the new platform, leveraging its existing SEC-registered transfer agent license.
Securitize Markets will also serve as one of the initial broker-dealer participants, helping to establish the full regulatory, operational, and technological framework. The collaboration includes a signed Memorandum of Understanding focused on creating industry standards for digital securities issuance and atomic settlement while preserving full compliance with traditional market rules.
The NYSE’s move into tokenized equities signals a broader shift in how traditional financial markets may evolve over the coming decade. By combining regulated market infrastructure with blockchain-based settlement and global accessibility, the initiative could redefine how equities are issued, traded, and owned.
While regulatory approval remains the key gating factor, the partnership with Securitize positions NYSE at the forefront of the rapidly growing real-world asset tokenization trend.
