High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The new contract trades under the ticker XRPUSDF. It is one of five crypto index futures that the exchange listed for the same launch day. So the move reaches well beyond XRP alone.
The exchange confirmed the launch in an official press release dated 16 September 2026. The notice went out at 10:00 Moscow time. It named a start date of 22 September.
The five contracts are BTCUSDF, ETHUSDF, SOLUSDF, XRPUSDF, and TRXUSDF. Each one tracks a Moscow Exchange crypto index. For XRP, the underlying is the MOEXXRP index.
Maria Patrikeeva, managing director of the derivatives market, announced the products. According to her, the launch marks a step for Russia’s regulated futures market. She also stressed reliable settlement and transparent pricing.
According to Moscow Exchange, more than 72,000 qualified investors have traded its crypto-linked futures since summer 2025. Their combined turnover has passed 600 billion rubles. Still, those figures cover the older book, not the new XRPUSDF contract.
MOEX calls these products eternal futures. In practice, that means a one-day contract that rolls over automatically each session. So a trader can hold a perpetual-style position without a fixed expiry.
The contract settles in cash. No XRP changes hands at any point. MOEX quotes XRPUSDF in US dollars, using the index value. Yet margin and settlement run in rubles.
A daily funding mechanism keeps the price close to the index. MOEX set the funding parameters at K1 of 0% and K2 of 0.35%. Only qualified investors may trade the contract.
In Russia, “qualified investor” is a legal status, not a simple sign-up tier. A person must meet asset, income, or trading tests first. So the audience for XRPUSDF stays narrow by design.
The short notice leaves out the lot size, tick size, and leverage for XRPUSDF. Those details sit in a separate specification document. So traders should check the contract card before they size a position.
This launch does not put XRP on a Russian blockchain. No tokens move. There is no XRP Ledger settlement, and there is no Ripple rail behind it.
Instead, XRPUSDF references the MOEXXRP index. That index is a weighted basket of XRP prices from four offshore venues. The weights are Binance 50%, Bybit 20%, OKX 15%, and Bitget 15%.
MOEX has not named Ripple as a partner. Ripple has not commented through official channels either. So readers should treat “Russia adopts XRP” posts with real caution.
The story reached English crypto Twitter through an unofficial account that posted a “now LIVE” alert. Yet the delayed MOEX tape at 08:59 Moscow time still showed no XRPUSDF trades. In short, the contract was listed and eligible, not visibly active.
These futures sit inside Russia’s regulated wrapper track. A separate law on digital currencies took effect on 1 September 2026. That law still bars spot crypto as a domestic payment method.
Regulators have not finished licensing exchanges and brokers. Bank of Russia official Vladimir Chistyukhin said the first licensed venues could appear by year-end. So the spot market is not fully live yet.
The key point is simple. Moscow Exchange XRP futures run on the regulated derivatives track, not the new spot regime. The two tracks stay separate for now.
MOEX moved from indirect crypto exposure to native XRP index and futures trading, culminating in XRPUSDF perpetuals.

XRP rallied into the listing. The token closed near $1.53 on 21 September, up from about $1.30 on 17 September. So the move started before the launch, not after it.
Still, do not credit Moscow Exchange alone for the price action. Several catalysts were in play across the week. Analysts caution against reading one exchange listing as the sole driver.
On launch morning, dated XRP futures traded thinly. The XRP-9.26 contract last printed near 1.52, with open interest around 2,814 contracts. Meanwhile XRPUSDF showed no early prints, and first-day volume was not public at research time.
That gap matters for how you read the news. A listing confirms the contract exists and can trade. It does not confirm heavy demand on day one. So “listed” and “actively traded” are not the same claim here.
MOEX has signaled plans for up to ten crypto indices. So more index contracts could follow this batch of five. The exchange clearly wants a deeper regulated crypto-derivatives menu.
The real test now is liquidity. Traders will watch first-week volume and open interest on XRPUSDF closely. Thin early prints would suggest demand still needs time to build.
For now, the takeaway stays grounded. Russia gained a regulated, cash-settled way to trade XRP price risk, not a bridge to the XRP network. This article is for information only and is not financial advice.
