@reinforce_fi
@ethena @EthenaPay 6% savings rate is worth tracing to source: if it's funded by perp basis trades like USDe, the rate floats with funding conditions, not a fixed yield. Worth knowing what happens to that 6% in a negative funding environment.

@ethena @EthenaPay Looks like Avalanche didn't learn from the Etherfi x Scroll relationship. Not sure how these cashback subsidies get approved as a long term strategy as its basically renting TVL / network activity. https://t.co/qgUiofNaSU

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The launch tweet headlined 6% savings and 5% cashback. However, the Terms of Use and an interview with The Block tell a more measured story. Both show tiered caps, and both show rewards that are discretionary rather than guaranteed. So the marketed numbers are best read as ceilings, not promises.
EthenaPay follows a simple pitch: send, save, and spend. The app adds fiat IBANs, instant transfers, onramps, and a Visa spend card. Meanwhile, your dollar balance sits in USDe inside a self-custodial wallet.
Founder Guy Young frames it as vertical integration. He told The Block it is the first neobank tied directly to a stablecoin issuer’s own product, instead of relying on USDC or USDT. In other words, Ethena now owns both the dollar and the app.
Still, the company is careful about labels. Ethena Pay Ltd. is a Malta software company, and it is explicitly not a bank. According to the product FAQ, it never holds customer funds, and digital assets remain uninsured.
At launch, EthenaPay opened to just 400 early-access users. The team plans to expand access weekly through the month. Meanwhile, The Block reports an iOS and Android beta across roughly 48 countries.
The official jurisdictions page lists 49 live countries. Examples include Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Singapore, the UAE, Kenya, and Australia. The United States, the EU, the UK, and Canada are listed as “live soon.”
The spend card is not offered to U.S. persons. Users in unsupported regions can join a waitlist instead. As an incentive, EthenaPay offers those users a $30 signup bonus.
The savings pitch is where EthenaPay draws the most scrutiny. Young told The Block that USDe’s protocol rate funds the savings yield. However, he did not disclose the funding source for the rest of the rewards.
That gap matters because current yield sits below the headline. According to RWA.xyz, staked USDe now earns a trailing APY of about 4.4%. So the marketed 6% likely needs a promotional top-up on capped balances.
The Terms back this up. They describe a “Daily Boost” of up to 6%, credited daily in USDe, and they call it discretionary and promotional. The Block adds the tiers: 5% on up to $5,000 for Standard users, then 6% on higher balances for paid tiers.
EthenaPay compared with traditional neobanks and crypto card competitors
*EthenaPay’s 6% rate is a discretionary promotional boost with tier-based balance caps. Terms and availability may change.
The card rewards follow a similar pattern. The Terms list 4.5% cashback on qualifying purchases, and the app pays it in AVAX rather than dollars. The Block breaks it into 4% for Standard, 4.5% for Pro, and 5% for VIP.
Those tiers are not free. To reach Pro, a user must lock $2,000 in ENA or refer 10 people. For VIP, the bar rises to $10,000 in ENA or 50 referrals. As a result, ENA demand becomes a product feature, not a measure of banking safety.
The rails behind the card are conventional. Visa cards are issued by Third National, a Puerto Rico bank, and the program is managed by Rain. Avalanche handles settlement exclusively, and Iron, a MoonPay subsidiary, runs the backend.
The “is EthenaPay safe” question starts with USDe itself. USDe is a synthetic dollar, not a bank-reserved one. According to DefiLlama, its supply sits near $4.1B today, down about 72% from a $14.8B peak in October 2025.
That drawdown followed a funding stress event. When perpetual funding rates flipped negative, USDe yield fell and supply shrank fast. So a long negative-carry stretch could make the marketed 6% more expensive to subsidize.
There is also a custody split. The wallet is non-custodial, but the card, IBAN, and hedges still depend on third parties. Because of that, the “self-custody” claim covers the app, not the entire stack.
Young said the full license stack would appear in public documentation this week. Until then, the named IBAN and banking partners stay unconfirmed. So the next few days should test how much EthenaPay can back its “global bank” framing.
The token market has already reacted, though not cleanly. ENA traded near $0.15 on launch day, up roughly 9% according to Tokenomist. That move coincided with earlier buyback news, so it is not proven to be Pay-driven.
For now, EthenaPay is a live beta with real rails and honest caveats in its own Terms. Readers should weigh the promotional yield against the synthetic-dollar risk before joining. This article is not financial advice, and the numbers above are marketing claims until on-chain data confirms them.
