17th September 2026- On-chain data firm Arkham says BlackRock’s two Ethereum funds pulled in about $1.5 billion over roughly 20 trading days. The claim landed on X on 17 September. It split the total between the iShares BlackRock Ethereum ETF and its newer staked sibling. Together, the flows point to steady institutional demand for spot ether exposure.

@arkham worth flagging: ETHB's zero outflow streak isn't pure conviction. redemptions run through an exit delay plus a 7 to 10 day withdrawal sweep, so it structurally can't show outflows the same day sentiment turns. ETHA is the cleaner read on real time demand.
BLACKROCK HAS BOUGHT $1.5 BILLION OF ETH BlackRock bought $1.27B of ETH through ETHA over the past 20 days, and another $296.5M through ETHB. ETHB has not seen a single day of outflows in that time. Will they keep buying? https://t.co/4bQ3GlBCEz

@arkham ETF purchases are client demand, not a BlackRock bet. New ETHA shares are created only when buyers ask for them, so twenty days of inflows means allocators kept adding exposure. The same mechanism runs in reverse the day they redeem.

Arkham attributed $1.27 billion to ETHA and $296.5 million to ETHB. Those totals track the daily net-flow series from Farside Investors. Specifically, they cover 19 sessions from 19 August through 15 September 2026.
The two figures are net creation flows, not a single wallet purchase. When investors buy more ETHA or ETHB shares than they sell, authorized participants create new shares. As a result, the funds must source matching ether through Coinbase Prime.
Add the two together and you get about $1.57 billion. Arkham then rounded that down to $1.5 billion. According to Farside, ETHB’s column sums to exactly $296.5 million over the window.
Those dollars convert to a rough ether count. At mid-window prices near $2,400, the combined flows equal about 650,000 ETH. Still, that figure is only an estimate, since BlackRock does not publish a 20-day token tape.
ETHB is not an Arkham nickname. It is the iShares Staked Ethereum Trust ETF, which BlackRock listed on Nasdaq on 12 March 2026. The fund stakes 70 to 95 percent of its ether and pays a monthly cash distribution.
ETHA is the original iShares Ethereum Trust ETF, and it does not stake. It launched in July 2024 and now holds about $8.57 billion in assets. By contrast, ETHB held about $1.04 billion as of 16 September.
Both funds share the same sponsor and custody stack. Coinbase Custody holds the ether, while Coinbase Prime handles execution. ETHB filings also name Anchorage Digital Bank as a second custodian.
ETHB also carries a fee incentive at launch. BlackRock waived part of the 0.25 percent sponsor fee to 0.12 percent on the first $2.5 billion. In addition, the fund passes about 82 percent of its staking rewards to shareholders.
Arkham’s cleanest point holds up. Over the 19-session window, ETHB never printed a down day. Every session came in flat or positive.
ETHA tells a messier story. It logged outflows on 2 September, 10 September, and 15 September. The largest of those was a $98 million redemption on 15 September.
So the streak language applies only to the staked fund. That distinction matters for anyone reading the headline as one long buying spree. It was not.
Arkham’s post read, “BlackRock has bought $1.5 billion of ETH.” That phrasing collapses several parties into one. In reality, the demand comes from fund investors and the brokers who create shares.
CryptoBriefing made the distinction plainly on 12 September. Its headline said BlackRock ETF clients purchased the ether, not BlackRock itself. The sponsor runs the product, yet clients drive the buying pressure.
No evidence shows BlackRock adding ether to a proprietary book. Arkham also published no verified Etherscan hashes for the $1.5 billion alongside the tweet. Creations of this size typically clear through Coinbase Prime or over-the-counter desks.
The 20-day sum stops on 15 September. The very next session told a different story. On 16 September, ETHA shed $110 million and ETHB shed $19.8 million.
That was ETHB’s first outflow in the sequence. Across the whole complex, US spot ether ETFs lost about $224 million that day. In other words, the bullish window closed one day before the reversal.
Price movement adds another layer. Ether climbed from about $1,916 to roughly $2,440 over the window, a gain near 25 percent. Because of that rally, fund assets grew on both new money and higher marks.
The BlackRock Ethereum ETF complex now controls a large share of the market. ETHA and ETHB together hold about $9.61 billion, near 62 percent of all US spot ether ETF assets. Even so, ETHA still dwarfs ETHB by roughly eight to one.
The wider picture still supports the demand story. August 2026 was the sector’s best month in a year, near $1.75 billion across all US spot ether ETFs. Cumulative net inflows for the complex now sit around $13 billion.
Whether the buying continues is an open question. Arkham ended its post by asking exactly that. The 16 September outflows suggest the trend is not one directional.
For now, the takeaway is narrow but real. Investors created about $1.57 billion of BlackRock Ethereum ETF shares over 19 sessions, and ETHB never wobbled. The next print, however, will show whether the demand sticks.
