The deposit was worth roughly $114 million at the time, according to on-chain tracker Lookonchain. That figure implies a price near $64.22 per HYPE.
Lookonchain flagged the move on June 27, 2026, and said it had happened about eight hours earlier. So the transaction likely landed around June 26 near 18:51 UTC.
The wallet, 0x1Ab185Be5Ff61F7b678D6a871D439307cd0752e3, first received the HYPE and then staked it. According to Hypurrscan, the address still holds a staked balance near 1,775,149 HYPE.
The tokens remain staked for now. Also, no public record shows which validator received the delegation.
The walletās history matters too. Earlier in 2026, trackers tied the same Bitwise label to a series of smaller HYPE buys. So the latest deposit looks like steady accumulation rather than a one-off bet.
Size offers another clue. A single $114 million deposit points to an institution, not a retail holder. That scale also strengthens the fund attribution.
The original alert sits on Lookonchainās post. As a result, the figures here trace back to a primary on-chain source rather than secondhand reports.
Bitwise HYPE staking is not new behavior. The firm launched the first US spot Hyperliquid ETF, BHYP, on the NYSE on May 15, 2026.
That product was also the first to stake its tokens in-house, through a unit called Bitwise Onchain Solutions. According to a Bitwise announcement, the firm planned to stake the fundās HYPE directly.
So this deposit fits a clear pattern. Through May and June, trackers logged repeated Bitwise HYPE buys, and the firm had reportedly staked more than 1 million HYPE by mid-June.
Staking also signals conviction. Because staked tokens earn yield and leave the liquid market, the move suggests a longer time horizon than simple spot holding.
That approach sets Bitwise apart from a passive spot fund. Instead of holding idle tokens, the firm puts them to work for yield while supporting the network.
HYPE is the native token of Hyperliquid, a fast layer-1 built around an on-chain order book. The token covers gas and powers staking.
Staking on Hyperliquid is non-custodial. First, a holder moves HYPE from the spot account to the staking account, which is instant.
Next, the holder delegates to a validator. That delegation carries a one-day lockup, and undelegated tokens then return to the staking account instantly.
Withdrawing back to the spot account is slower. According to the Hyperliquid docs, that step sits in a seven-day queue.
This design rewards patience. Because the unstaking queue runs for a full week, large stakers effectively commit to the network for the medium term.
Rewards come mainly from network and trading fees, and they usually auto-compound. Slashing, meanwhile, is not active under the current rules.
Bitwise is not the only large player chasing HYPE. Grayscale brought its own Hyperliquid staking ETF, HYPG, to market on June 3, 2026, just weeks after BHYP.
So two major issuers now compete for the same staking yield. That race helps explain why on-chain watchers track every large HYPE deposit so closely.
Bitwise has also stayed publicly bullish on the token. Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan has framed HYPE as a core part of the firmās wider crypto strategy.
For the network, heavier institutional staking can be a mixed blessing. It deepens security and locks up supply. Still, it can also concentrate stake among a few big funds.
The Bitwise label is not settled fact. Lookonchain bases the attribution on prior tracking and Arkham entity tags, not an official statement.
Some users on X also pushed back. They argued the wallet belongs to Grayscale rather than Bitwise, citing the recent HYPG launch.
Neither firm has publicly confirmed the owner. So the attribution stays probable rather than proven, and readers should treat it that way.
Still, Lookonchainās past labeling of Bitwise HYPE activity supports its call. As of now, no source disputes the amount or the staking action itself.
The market reaction stayed muted. Around June 26, HYPE traded between roughly $61 and $65 and closed near $64.42, according to CoinLore data.
Against a circulating supply above 222 million tokens, the stake is meaningful but not market-moving. Hyperliquidās total value locked also remains large.
That figure ranges from about $1.39 billion to $5.74 billion across DefiLlama snapshots. So the deposit adds to an already deep staking base.
Yield is the draw for these funds. Hyperliquid staking pays a share of trading fees. So a deep order book can translate into steady rewards for stakers.
The bigger story is institutional flow. If more funds accumulate and stake HYPE, the tokenās locked supply could keep tightening over time.
For now, Bitwise HYPE staking offers a template that rival issuers may copy. Watch the same wallet and Hypurrscan for any move to undelegate or add more. This article is for informational purposes only and is not financial advice.
