Trump’s August 19, 2026 remarks at a White House meeting with crypto and technology executives provided the primary catalyst. Trump said CFTC Chair Michael Selig is working on a compliant U.S. path for Hyperliquid, but he announced no approval. Unchained, Cointelegraph, CoinDesk, and The Block covered the remarks on August 19 and 20.
Hyperliquid itself announced no upgrade, listing, partnership, or product release that explains the move, making this a regulatory-news-driven rally. Broader Bitcoin and Ether strength also supported risk appetite, while CoinGlass data showed rising derivatives positioning.
CoinGecko recorded about $1.82 billion in 24-hour HYPE trading volume, versus recent daily totals that commonly ranged from $120 million to $380 million. CoinGlass put perpetual futures open interest at $3.17 billion, up 28.67%. Lookonchain tracked a 450,000 HYPE long worth about $32.49 million with $14.58 million in unrealized profit. DefiLlama and CoinGecko placed protocol TVL near $6.32 billion to $6.33 billion, which remained broadly stable.
Pentoshi (@Pentosh1), who has , reacted positively during the rally with “Holy crap $hype” and later “$HYPE Good shit.” The research found no additional verified high-follower commentary with an exact follower count that met the article’s attribution standard.
Steady attention without excessive speculation.
As a sentiment proxy, Lookonchain’s data showed a 450,000 HYPE long carrying about $14.58 million in unrealized profit.
CoinGecko shows $74.32 as the immediate historical resistance reference, based on the August 20 24-hour high. The $58.88 to $60 area marks the key historical support reference from the August 20 session low and the consolidation zone where the move began. Above $74.32, the next major historical level is $76.87, Hyperliquid’s all-time high from June 16, 2026. AltIndex puts the 14-day RSI at 74.4, which signals overbought conditions, while price sits above both the 50-day and 200-day moving-average zones.

Messari and Tokenomics.com trackers show the next major HYPE unlock around August 28 to 29, 2026, at roughly 9.9 million to 14.2 million HYPE. Traders will also watch for further CFTC comments or Hyperliquid Policy Center updates on U.S. access. Downside risks include unlock-related supply pressure, a post-rally correction after a 20%+ move, elevated leverage following the 28.67% open-interest jump.
