@cursor_ai @SpaceX @SpaceXAI Wait so the deal closes on what price of SPCX? today’s price or the price from two months ago?

@cursor_ai @SpaceX @SpaceXAI I live in Cursor about 6 hours a day, so my only question is model choice. If Grok becomes the default and my Sonnet slot quietly disappears, that is a downgrade for me, not an upgrade.

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The SpaceX Cursor acquisition ranks as the largest buyout of a venture-backed startup on record, according to Forbes. Cursor now becomes a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary. Its team joins the @SpaceXAI group to improve Grok and Cursor.
SpaceX structured the deal as an all-stock reverse triangular merger. A SpaceX subsidiary, X67 Inc., merged into Anysphere. Cursor then survived as the wholly owned entity. The companies disclosed no cash component.
SpaceX issued roughly 389.3 million Class A shares to fund the deal. It priced that stock on a 7-day volume-weighted average. The new shares should dilute existing SpaceX holders by about 3.4%. The Effective Time landed at 13:02:24 GMT on Thursday.
The acquirer of record is SpaceX itself, not xAI or X Corp. Musk had already folded xAI into SpaceX earlier in 2026. As a result, the Grok models now sit under the same roof as the rocket company.
This close caps a deal that moved in clear stages. First, SpaceX announced a training partnership in April 2026. It also secured an option to acquire Cursor for $60 billion. That option carried a $10 billion breakup fee.
Then, on June 16, 2026, SpaceX exercised the option. It signed a definitive merger agreement the same day. The two teams had already trained models together on the Colossus supercomputer. So the tie-up built on existing work rather than starting cold.
Cursor itself grew fast before the deal. Four MIT classmates founded Anysphere in 2022. Reuters reported roughly $2.6 billion in annual recurring revenue. That figure climbed from about $100 million in early 2025. Anysphere also raised around $3.4 billion in total funding. Its Series D hit a $29.3 billion valuation in November 2025.
The startup even weighed a roughly $50 billion funding round before the bid. Instead, it took the SpaceX offer. SpaceX moved just days after Cursor’s blockbuster IPO, TechCrunch noted.
Cursor’s rise from startup to $60B SpaceX acquisition
Michael Truell and his MIT classmates launch Anysphere, the company behind Cursor.
Anysphere raises a $900M Series C, valuing the company at $9.9 billion.
Cursor raises $2.3 billion in a Series D backed by Accel, Coatue, Google and Nvidia.
Revenue accelerates while the company enters funding discussions around a $50 billion valuation.
SpaceX announces a partnership with Cursor and an option to acquire the company for $60 billion.
SpaceX signs a definitive agreement to acquire Anysphere in an all-stock transaction.
Cursor becomes a wholly owned SpaceX subsidiary and joins the SpaceXAI team.
The team will work across Cursor, Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot and the Grok API.
Cursor brings a popular coding product. It also brings a large base of developer usage data. Meanwhile, SpaceXAI brings Colossus-scale compute and the Grok model family. The plan pairs those strengths.
According to Cursor, the team will help improve several products. The list covers Grok, Grok Build, Grok Bot, the Grok API, and Cursor. Grok Build is a terminal coding agent. Grok Bot runs cloud AI teammates. The Grok API serves frontier models to developers.
Cursor CEO Michael Truell remains involved. The companies disclosed no leadership changes at close. On the June signing, Truell wrote on X, “Lots to do together. Excited to be joining forces with @SpaceX to build useful AI.”
The joint effort is not new. Both teams say earlier training runs already sharpened recent Grok models. Now they aim for tighter loops across agentic coding and model training.
Crypto traders will search for a token tied to this news. There is none. No official Grok, xAI, or Cursor token exists. None is affiliated with SpaceX or SpaceXAI.
Meanwhile, unaffiliated memecoins already trade on the narrative. An unaffiliated GROK token sits on Ethereum. Several low-cap “CURSOR AI” tokens trade on Solana. Many sit under $50,000 in market cap. Treat all of them as unaffiliated and high risk.
So far, no verified on-chain reaction links to the August 14 close. Any price move in these tokens reflects narrative speculation. It does not reflect a real link to the deal. Always do your own research. None of this is financial advice.
Not everyone cheered the close. Some developers worry that Cursor could lose its model-agnostic stance. They fear it may lean toward Grok over time. Others raised an older concern, too. Big acquirers sometimes absorb or sideline a product later.
Antitrust clearance was a closing condition, and the deal cleared it. Still, Musk’s habit of pulling AI assets under one company drew fresh scrutiny. Official messaging stresses continuity and mutual benefit. So far, no denials or walk-backs have surfaced.
On X, reactions leaned bullish among AI developers. Musk-aligned accounts cheered the move as well. A mild skeptical undercurrent remained about long-term independence. Overall, the response mixed product optimism with caution.
Attention now turns to the roadmap. One open question is whether Cursor stays fully model-agnostic. Another covers how the team retains key employees. A third asks how tightly the Grok and Cursor products merge.
For now, the SpaceX Cursor acquisition is done. SpaceX has issued the shares. The Cursor brand lives on inside SpaceXAI. Watch the next Grok and Cursor releases for early signs of the integration.
