The team shared the news on October 26 through a blog post titled “Unveiling Soneium: The Onchain Entertainment Economy.” A matching thread from the official @soneium account followed at around 08:30 UTC. Both carried the same message and the same figures.
Soneium framed the update as a new stage for the network. According to the official blog post, the chain now aims to power “an onchain entertainment economy powered by Tokenized IP.”
The post also confirmed a token plan. Soneium said it “plans to issue $SONEIUM, an ecosystem-native token designed to connect participants across the whole Soneium economy.” Further details on the token generation event, or TGE, will come “at a later date.”
One line stands out, though. The post states plainly that “no $SONEIUM token has been issued.” So the token is not live, not tradable, and has no official price today.
Soneium also claimed scale. It said the network now hosts more than 250 applications. These span music, games, anime, film, collectibles and fan creations, and the same figure appears in the X thread.
The core idea behind the Soneium tokenized IP economy is simple at heart. Creators can turn a character, a song, or a title into a programmable onchain asset. Then they can raise funds and share future value with fans and investors.
Importantly, the creator keeps the underlying copyright and creative control. What gets offered instead is a claim on the value the work generates. In other words, tokenized IP sells participation, not ownership of the rights themselves.
Soneium groups these products into three types. There are IP Tokens, IP Vaults, and IP Bonds. Together they give creators several ways to fund new work and reward early supporters.
Soneium also named a dedicated hub for all of it. The Soneium Portal is positioned as “the official Tokenized IP platform and the primary hub for IP discovery and investment.”
Key milestones in Soneium’s Journey from L2 to Entertainment Layer
Sony Block Solutions Labs (JV with Startale Group) announces Soneium as an Ethereum L2 for creators and fans. Minato testnet quickly attracts millions of wallets and tens of millions of transactions.
Soneium mainnet goes live within the Superchain, enabling real crypto payments inside apps and shifting focus from infrastructure toward entertainment and fan use cases.
Soneium Score, the Startale App, and USDSC (Dec 2025) launch. By year end: hundreds of millions of transactions, millions of active wallets, and 250+ live dApps across music, games, and anime.
Partnership with DayOneDream brings K-pop IP and concert revenue onchain as Tokenized IP Bonds via WAVIST. Soneium also adopts OP Enterprise support for chain operations.
Soneium commits to supporting draft ERC-8432 for onchain IP asset and license registries, positioning machine-readable licensing as core infrastructure for creators and AI agents.
Full Tokenized IP vision unveiled; Soneium Portal launched as the discovery and investment hub. Moriusa (Super State Holdings) named as the first IP Token. $SONEIUM ecosystem token plans announced, marking the shift to a token-economic entertainment layer.
TGE details for $SONEIUM remain unannounced. Moriusa-related updates flagged for around November 5, 2026 on the Soneium Portal.
The announcement also gave the concept a first face. Soneium named Moriusa, from Tokyo-based Super State Holdings, as the first IP Token on the network.
Moriusa is a character brand with prior NFT activity, and its Portal collection page lists it under the code ST0001. The Portal listing shows a truncated contract address of 0x679c…f987. The full address and live verification status were not independently confirmed beyond that page.
For now, the Portal also teases more Moriusa details on November 5. So the first IP Token still has mechanics left to reveal.
The token plan is notable for one reason. Soneium previously said it had no plans for a native token, and that ETH would remain the gas asset.
This update changes that framing. Yet the team still kept the messaging measured. Yuji Kumagai, Head of Soneium Protocol, focused on creators rather than price.
“Entertainment starts with creators. Today, Soneium enters a new stage built to stand behind them,” Kumagai said in the blog post. He added that the network wants to help creators “fund their next work at a new scale.”
Crucially, the primary sources promise no airdrop and no eligibility rules. Community posts treat the news as an airdrop signal, but Soneium itself does not. Readers should keep that gap in mind.
Underneath the products sits a three-layer design. First, the IP Registry creates a permanent, timestamped onchain record of a work’s origin, metadata, and ownership.
Next, the IP Graph maps relationships between works. It links originals to derivatives, collaborations, fan creations, and AI-assisted content. Finally, the IP Execution Layer runs smart contracts that split and distribute royalties automatically.
This stack also leans on an open standard. Soneium supports ERC-8432, a draft Ethereum standard for an onchain IP asset and license registry. The standard lets apps and even AI agents query permissions and settle licenses onchain, without one central platform in control.
The vision is broad, but the current footprint is modest. According to DefiLlama, Soneium’s total value locked sat near $9.37 million on October 26.
Activity looks steady rather than explosive. The chain recorded roughly 4,357 active addresses and about 187,000 transactions over 24 hours. Notably, the data showed no clear spike tied directly to the announcement.
Soneium launched its mainnet in January 2025, so this traction reflects nine months of growth. The chain runs on the Optimism OP Stack and sits within the Superchain. It was built with Startale Group, and it is powered by Sony Block Solutions Labs.
Sentiment on X skews cautiously bullish. Many users celebrate a Sony-backed entertainment economy. Plenty also speculate about a future airdrop through Soneium Score or STAR Points.
Still, some replies question the timing and ask when the TGE will actually land. Skeptics also raise a broader point. Rights for tokenized IP remain legal and off-chain. So securities questions and worries about Sony and Startale control could follow.
There is also an immediate scam risk. Fake tokens using the $SONEIUM ticker have already appeared on other chains. Because no real token exists yet, any $SONEIUM trading now is a red flag. This article is not financial advice, and readers should verify every contract through official channels.
Several answers are still missing. Soneium has not shared the TGE date, the total supply, the allocation, or any airdrop eligibility tied to existing points.
The next concrete marker is November 5, when the Portal promises more Moriusa details. After that, traders will watch for the vision paper roadmap and any first live IP Token mechanics. For now, Soneium is selling infrastructure and a plan. The Soneium tokenized IP economy still has to prove it can turn a bold pitch into real activity.
