The group gives industry feedback on DTCC’s coming Tokenization Service. Members test workflows, align standards, and help bridge traditional finance and DeFi. Plume said it will contribute its compliance expertise to that work.
The DTCC runs the core plumbing behind U.S. securities markets. It handles custody, clearing, and settlement for most trades. In total, it safeguards more than $114 trillion in assets.
DTCC launched its Digital Assets Solutions business earlier in 2026. The working group first convened in May with more than 50 firms. By mid-July, it had grown past 100 members and partners, and Plume joined that expanded group.
Plume shared the news itself, and DTCC has not named the chain in a press release. So the Plume DTCC membership rests on Plume’s own account for now.
Plume is an EVM-compatible chain built for real-world asset finance. Its mainnet, Plume Genesis, went live on June 5, 2025 with about $150 million in RWAs. Co-founders Chris Yin and Teddy Pornprinya have raised backing from Haun Ventures, Brevan Howard, Galaxy, and Apollo.
Traction claims have swung widely since launch. Plume reported more than 200 projects and over 200,000 holders at its peak. Reported RWA value also climbed as high as $645 million in some 2025 snapshots.
The chain also holds a rare credential for a crypto network. It registered as an SEC transfer agent through Kimber Transfer Agency in October 2025. That status helps explain why it sees a role in DTCC’s standards talks.
DTCC did not arrive at tokenization overnight. It bought blockchain firm Securrency for $50 million in late 2023. It then folded that team into a unit now called DTCC Digital Assets.
The clearinghouse spent 2025 building toward a live product. The SEC No-Action Letter in December 2025 gave it legal cover. By early 2026, DTCC had a dedicated Digital Assets Solutions business and an advisory council.
A seat at this table carries weight because of who else sits there. The group includes Bank of America, Citadel Securities, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Circle. Overall, for a young RWA chain, that peer list reads as validation.
The timing adds to the signal. DTCC ran limited production trades of tokenized Treasuries and equities in July. It also targets a full Tokenization Service launch in October 2026.
A December 2025 SEC No-Action Letter clears the service for three years. It covers liquid assets like Russell 1000 stocks, major ETFs, and Treasuries. Crucially, the tokens keep the same legal rights as the underlying securities.
Membership means feedback and dialogue, not a contract. It brings no voting rights, no pilot award, and no chain selection. So far, DTCC has not picked Plume to issue or settle tokenized assets.
Secondary coverage from crypto.news and others stressed the same caveat. Analysts noted that a working-group seat stays relatively low-commitment. The real test comes later, through actual integrations and volume.
There is a bigger story in who joins these groups. Some analysts frame DTCC as absorbing crypto firms rather than fighting them. In that view, the incumbent bends tokenization toward its own rails.
Some commentators on X put it bluntly. Credibility is real, they wrote, but membership alone is not adoption.
The token moved up on the news, then gave some of it back. PLUME rose from about $0.0109 on August 5 to $0.0128 on August 6. CoinGecko data showed the price up roughly 16.6% on August 7 as volume spiked.
By August 8, PLUME had eased back to about $0.0116. Daily volume still ran near $17 million, well above prior levels. So the reaction looked positive but modest, not a breakout.
Meanwhile, DefiLlama currently lists Plume’s DeFi TVL in the low single-digit millions, far below its 2025 highs. None of this is financial advice. RWA metrics also shift on their own, so no clean TVL spike tracks the seat alone.
Plume enters the group weeks before DTCC’s planned October launch. Its next job stays simple: contribute feedback and prove useful in the workflow tests. Any concrete pilot or integration would need separate confirmation.
CEO Chris Yin framed the move as a long game. He called DTCC a pioneer in tokenization and said the work has “only just begun.”
For now, the Plume DTCC seat buys a voice in the room, not a signed deal. Watch October, and watch for the first real integration. That is where credibility turns into adoption.
