High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The first post landed at 08:00 UTC, when OKX said “real-world markets just went live in Europe.” Then, at 08:42 UTC, the exchange added the legal fine print. So the same launch carried two very different messages within one hour.
According to the campaign terms, OKX opened two pre-IPO markets on September 10: OPENAIUSD and ANTHROPICUSD. Alongside them, the exchange rolled out roughly 100 tokenized stocks on its consumer app.
The marketing tweet promised “pre-IPO access to companies like OpenAI and Anthropic.” However, only those two names are actually pre-IPO on day one. The phrase “companies like” is marketing language, not a product roster.
Notably, SpaceX is not a pre-IPO name here. SpaceX went public on 12 June 2026, so its market is now a listed-stock product instead. As a result, grouping it with OpenAI and Anthropic would be inaccurate.
This is where the two OKX messages collide. In its follow-up post, the exchange stated plainly that “Pre-IPO X-Perps are leveraged derivatives, not shares.”
In other words, buyers get price exposure, not equity. There is no ownership, no voting, and no dividend. Instead, each contract simply tracks an implied private valuation.
Marketing materials cite up to 10x leverage, while the campaign voucher example uses 5x. Because leverage cuts both ways, it can amplify losses and trigger liquidation. Therefore capital is genuinely at risk, as OKX itself warns.
There is also a product-language wrinkle. Press coverage calls X-Perps “perpetual futures without an expiry date.” Yet OKX’s own European documents describe five-year expiry futures with a funding-rate mechanism. So the “perpetual” label is contested even within OKX’s materials.
Timeline: OKX built its European derivatives and tokenized-asset infrastructure before launching OpenAI, Anthropic and 100+ tokenized stocks across Europe.
OKX Europe Markets Limited appears on the ESMA investment-firm register as an MFSA-supervised Malta entity.
OKX Europe Limited receives a full MiCA CASP licence from Malta and passports crypto services across the EEA.
OKX announces the acquisition of a MiFID II-licensed Malta entity to support regulated derivatives.
OpenAI states that promotional OpenAI tokens launched by Robinhood were not OpenAI equity or an approved partnership.
Backed’s xStocks launch on Solana, creating a major on-chain tracker-certificate rail later distributed by exchanges including Kraken.
OKX launches regulated X-Perps in Europe, initially covering crypto assets with up to 10x leverage.
OKX lists offshore pre-IPO perps for SpaceX, OpenAI and Anthropic, excluding EEA residents.
OKX adds Mag-7 stocks, SPY, QQQ, gold, silver and oil to its European X-Perps offering.
The EEA’s MiCA transition deadline passes as OKX continues expanding its regulated European derivatives business.
OKX launches Unified Tokenized Stocks using xStocks across Solana and X Layer, initially excluding Europe and the US.
Payward announces plans to tokenize 100 LSE-listed names and connect them to the LSE.
OKX launches OpenAI and Anthropic Pre-IPO X-Perps plus ~100 tokenized stocks for eligible European users, operating 24/7.
OKX says new tokenized tickers will be added weekly; no public timetable has been given for a UK or US rollout.
The parallel tokenized-stock book works differently, though the ownership caveat still applies. According to same-day coverage, the roughly 100 names include SpaceX, Alphabet, NVIDIA, Palantir, SPY, and QQQ.
These tokens trade 24/7 and can serve as collateral for X-Perps. Users can also withdraw them on-chain to self-custody. Even so, the tokens only track price, while ownership and voting stay with the real shareholders.
OKX is the distributor and venue here, not the issuer. According to its product docs, the tokens come from xStocks under the Payward framework. Backed Assets (JE) Limited in Jersey mints them. Meanwhile, the supported rails are Solana and X Layer.
Dividends add another quirk. Rather than paying cash, the framework reinvests dividends into the share balance. Consequently, holders should not expect a traditional payout.
How their pre-IPO and tokenized-stock products differ.
OKX is leaning hard on its European licences. According to the terms, the derivatives sit with OKX Europe Markets Limited. The Malta Financial Services Authority authorises that entity under MiFID II. Separately, affiliate OKX Europe Limited holds the MiCA crypto licence.
This regulatory framing is the competitive hook. Since the MiCA transition period ended on 1 July 2026, unlicensed venues have had to exit the EEA. Because of that shift, OKX can pitch a compliant product where rivals cannot serve European users.
Erald Ghoos, CEO of OKX Europe, made the point directly. “Pre-IPO markets have been unavailable for most European traders on traditional brokerage and other regulated platforms,” he said. He also claimed European X-Perps volume has quadrupled since July, although OKX did not publish raw figures.
Eligibility comes with conditions. Traders across roughly 40 European countries can join, yet the UK is not on the list. Furthermore, users need KYC, an appropriateness assessment, and a derivatives account.
The valuations behind these markets deserve a close look. According to reports, Anthropic last raised at about $965 billion, while OpenAI’s most recent private mark sat near $852 billion. Still, those are private-round figures, not tradable prices.
Rival synthetic markets show how detached the numbers can get. For example, Anthropic perps on other venues have implied valuations near $1.9 trillion, far above the last funding round. As a result, the price looks like a trader-set index rather than a company’s real cap table.
The comparison to 2025 is hard to miss. When Robinhood offered “OpenAI tokens” in Europe, OpenAI publicly disavowed them. The company said any transfer of its equity requires approval, which it never gave.
So far, neither OpenAI nor Anthropic has commented on the OKX launch. However, that silence is not endorsement. OKX’s own disclosures state that using company names implies no affiliation.
Several key details are still missing. For instance, OKX has not published exact fees, margin schedules, funding rates, or the index methodology behind the pre-IPO marks.
Day-one demand also looks modest. The launch tweet drew only about 36,000 views and 55 likes in its first two hours. That is quiet for OKX’s 5.6 million followers. Meanwhile, OKB traded around $112, with no launch-day spike.
Tier-one outlets had not matched the Europe launch by mid-morning UTC either. Until those details become clear, the OKX pre-IPO stocks book stays a way to speculate. It is not a route to real equity. As always, this is not financial advice, and leveraged products can lead to total loss.
