January 7, 2026 – The MultiversX Supernova Vote will begin on January 8, as the network opens governance voting to allow EGLD stakeholders to approve activation of its most ambitious protocol upgrade to date. Building on the Andromeda consensus redesign, Supernova introduces deep architectural improvements aimed at significantly enhancing speed, efficiency, and scalability. A detailed walkthrough and supporting materials will be released ahead of the vote, following extensive Battle of Nodes testing and security audits.

Supernova governance begins tomorrow. Before the vote goes live, here’s a technical breakdown of what the upgrade actually changes at the protocol level — and why it matters. A technical thread. 🧵 👇 https://t.co/nOFOM2cBjV

MultiversX launched in 2020, originally under the Elrond brand, with adaptive state sharding designed to deliver high throughput without sacrificing decentralization. Over the years, the network has followed a steady cadence of protocol upgrades focused on real world performance.
The Andromeda upgrade marked a major milestone by enabling instant finality and improving cross shard execution. Supernova, developed throughout 2025 with heavy community involvement, represents the next phase of that roadmap. According to the team, the upgrade refines core protocol mechanics rather than adding surface level features, positioning it as a foundational change to how the network operates.
January 8, 2026. The announcement that governance voting for the Supernova upgrade begins on January 8, 2026 has generated modest positive sentiment but resulted in limited short term price movement for $EGLD. The current $EGLD price is around $6.45 to $7.54 USD, with varying sources showing approximately $6.38 to $7.54. Recent 24 hour price changes remain neutral to slightly positive, ranging from 0 to 2 percent. The pre vote buildup has driven community discussion but no significant rally, as market focus remains on execution quality and post vote activation.
January 8, 2026. MultiversX ($EGLD) advanced its core roadmap throughout 2025 with major protocol upgrades, staking improvements, and governance initiatives. These efforts centered on performance, decentralization, and preparation for the Supernova upgrade.
Entering 2026, governance voting for Supernova is now live, marking the network’s largest architectural change to date. The upgrade targets sub second finality and higher throughput, with $EGLD consolidation in late 2025 setting the stage for potential renewed momentum if activation proceeds smoothly.
The Supernova governance vote runs from January 8, 2026 for up to 10 days, with quorum around 25 to 50 percent participation and a majority YES required. Turnout by mid January will be a key signal, as low participation could delay or weaken activation plans. If approved, mainnet rollout is targeted for Q1 2026, pending final audits and validator readiness updates from MultiversX, while delays or governance pushback would quickly shift sentiment.
