Steady attention without excessive speculation.
27th March 2026- Etherscan has rolled out a focused upgrade that enhances how users interact with on-chain AI agents. It now displays rich, real-time metadata for Trustless Agents registered via Etherscan ERC-8004 directly within NFT detail pages. As a result, users can instantly access critical information such as operational status, payment compatibility, services, and capabilities without relying on external tools or manual contract queries.
This update, announced on March 26, 2026, improves transparency and significantly reduces friction in navigating the rapidly growing on-chain AI agent ecosystem. At the same time, it signals a broader shift toward standardized, verifiable infrastructure for autonomous systems.

@etherscan This is the inflection point for agent identity. Metadata on the block explorer means ERC-8004 agents are now discoverable by default. Discovery is step one. The next step: making that identity stake-backed, so trust is economic, not reputational.

@etherscan Huge. Identity browsable by humans is a nice explorer feature. The real question is whether another agent can query this programmatically before deciding to transact... Any plans to expose it via @etherscan MCP?

@etherscan If agents already have ENS names, surfacing them here would be a big upgrade. Making identities human readable, easier to share, and consistent across every interface.

The update follows the rapid adoption of ERC-8004 after its mainnet deployment on Ethereum in late January 2026. Since then, thousands of AI agents have been registered across multiple chains including Ethereum, Base, Polygon, Avalanche, and BNB Chain. As adoption increased, developers and users began demanding better visibility into agent functionality and trust assumptions.
Etherscan responded by integrating proxy metadata parsing into its NFT interface, strengthening the Etherscan ERC-8004 experience for users. This allows it to extract and display structured agent data directly from ERC-721 Identity Registry tokens. Previously, Etherscan only showed standard NFT metadata, which limited visibility into agent-specific attributes.
Before this upgrade, users depended on niche tools such as 8004Scan.io or direct smart contract interactions to access detailed agent data. Therefore, discovery remained fragmented and often inaccessible to non-technical participants.
Etherscan now displays an agent’s operational status directly within the NFT page, which gives users real-time insight into whether the agent is active, paused, or under maintenance. This feature helps users quickly determine if an agent is currently usable without interacting with it blindly.
In addition, the platform highlights support for the x402 payment protocol. This allows users to verify whether an agent can handle autonomous micropayments through HTTP-based payment flows. As a result, users gain immediate clarity on whether an agent supports programmable, machine-to-machine transactions.
Etherscan also surfaces detailed information about services and endpoints. Users can view supported APIs, Agent-to-Agent communication protocols, Model Context Protocol endpoints, and other integration methods. This makes it easier for developers to understand how an agent can be used or integrated into larger systems.
Finally, the interface includes additional capabilities such as reputation signals, validation proofs, linked wallet addresses, and trust models. Since Etherscan pulls all of this data directly from on-chain registries, the information remains verifiable and does not depend on off-chain sources.
Key Features Now Available
This integration lowers the barrier to entry for interacting with AI agents on-chain. Developers can now inspect agent capabilities, endpoints, and payment mechanisms directly within Etherscan. As a result, integration becomes faster and more efficient, which encourages greater composability across agent networks.
In addition, the update strengthens trust in autonomous systems. Users can verify whether an agent is operational and understand its capabilities before interacting with it. This transparency becomes increasingly important as agents begin to handle financial transactions and execute tasks independently.
The visibility of x402 payment support introduces a clearer pathway for machine-to-machine monetization. Agents can charge for services programmatically, and users can verify these capabilities instantly. Consequently, this accelerates the development of decentralized AI marketplaces and service economies.
