Ethena Binance partnership brings equity perpetuals into USDe’s backing strategy. Here’s how the trade works and what risks it adds.
Author: Kritika Gupta
25th September 2026- Ethena named Binance as its first venue for equity perpetuals. The move extends the USDe basis trade beyond crypto for the first time. Ethena called it one of the biggest updates to USDe collateral since launch. Allocations, it said, begin today.

This might be the point where @ethena stops being mainly a crypto basis trade. USDe has basically been built around turning crypto’s perpetual funding into a delta-neutral backing strategy. Equities give the same machinery a completely different market to work with. And https://t.co/LoAgCdFk5m

$USDE: This is absolutely massive news and should *rapidly* expand USDe adoption as the underlying yield generated is 1) diversified into a much broader and deeper pool of equity basis positions and 2) more sustainable and less dependent on crypto sentiment / cyclicality $ENA is https://t.co/2URtczKsAP

Always found weird that earning on stables usually starts with moving them elsewhere. @BinanceWallet adding @ethena’s USDe to Hold to Earn flips that around a bit. Leave USDe in the wallet and eligible rewards come automatically, currently up to 4.75% APR from Binance Wallet. https://t.co/jXbn78qv1B
Binance Wallet has enabled USDe rewards. USDe has been selected as one of only three assets eligible for @BinanceWallet's new Hold to Earn - and offers the highest rate available. Hold USDe and earn rewards automatically, paid by Binance. https://t.co/Dt50J7Yl0K https://t.co/GObJuIaQiq

High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The announcement went out at 11:00 GMT on the official @ethena account. The Block confirmed the same details in an exclusive report the same morning. Still, the tweet left the key numbers blank, so the size of the first allocation stays undisclosed.
The structure copies the delta-neutral model Ethena has run since inception. First, the protocol buys a tokenized stock, called a bStock, on Binance. Then it shorts a matching Binance equity perpetual in the same size.
Both legs sit on the same venue. When the short collects positive funding, that carry flows into protocol yield. If the spot leg rises, the short offsets it, so the combined book stays near flat.
An equity perpetual is a futures contract on a stock, with no expiry. Longs and shorts swap a funding payment on a set schedule. Ethena earns when leveraged longs pay to hold their positions open. Ethena’s docs describe the crypto version of this same trade.
The launch tweet named no dollar figure and no live tickers. Instead, Ethena pointed to a Risk Committee framework published on August 28. That framework sets a test for which names qualify.
A ticker must clear five checks. It needs at least $25m of one-sided open interest on a 14-day average. It also needs 30 days of funding history. Beyond that, it must track a listed public underlying, avoid leverage, and pair with tokenized spot on the same venue.
By August 26, the test admitted 17 Binance names. The list included Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Meta, Alphabet, Micron, plus the SPY and QQQ ETFs. Which of those names are live in the book right now stays unconfirmed.
Ethena also framed the prize in trillions. It cited a $2.5 trillion crypto market against $150 trillion or more in real-world assets. Critics counter that usable open interest is far smaller, closer to $2.9 billion across venues in August.
How USDe’s backing strategy has evolved
Ethena launches USDe with crypto assets paired against short perpetual futures positions.
Ethena adds strategies involving BTC, stablecoins and real-world assets alongside its original crypto basis trade.
The larger supply puts more focus on the capacity and diversification of USDe’s backing strategies.
Ethena says allocations begin using bStocks as the tokenized spot leg and short Binance equity perpetuals as the hedge.
Ethena has not disclosed the first equity positions, the amount allocated or a cap on this strategy’s share of USDe backing.
Here the sources split. The tweet said the Binance equity basis has averaged about 11% or more annualized over six months. The Block, citing data from Ethena, reported just 3.56% over the same window.
The Risk Committee added a third figure. It said approved names compressed from roughly 18% in late July to about 7% by late August. Two names had already turned negative by then.
That gap matters for anyone reading the headline yield. When funding flips negative, the short pays instead of collecting. So the Ethena equity perpetuals sleeve carries the same risk as crypto basis, now on a younger and thinner book.
USDe backing before and after the Binance equity-perpetual extension
The $150T+ figure describes a broad potential market, not collateral Ethena has allocated or can currently use.
The trade puts a lot inside one group. The bStock issuer, BTech Holdings, is a Binance affiliate. The spot venue, the perp venue, and the margin engine all sit inside Binance too.
That concentration has a recent precedent. During the October 2025 liquidation cascade, USDe briefly printed near $0.65 on Binance. On-chain venues like Curve and Uniswap stayed within about 0.3% of the peg.
Ethena framed that event as a Binance order-book artifact, not a reserve failure. Its reserves held, and redemptions cleared. Still, the worst USDe print on record happened on the same venue now taking this new sleeve.
Ethena did point to one safeguard. It said Binance grants lower auto-deleveraging priority to eligible delta-neutral accounts, including its own. That claim came from Ethena, and the exchange rulebook text stays unconfirmed here.
Binance is clear on this point. Its own bStocks explainer says holders do not own the underlying listed share. A bStock is a tokenized certificate, issued under an ADGM prospectus.
So USDe does not hold Apple stock in a brokerage account. It holds a tokenized certificate plus a short perp, both on Binance. The Risk Committee also flagged a shared upgrade key and unsettled dividend treatment.
Those details raise a classification question. A synthetic dollar that ships worldwide would now carry equity-linked exposure. Neither Ethena nor Binance addressed that regulatory perimeter on announcement day.
USDe supply sits near $4.9 billion, according to DefiLlama. The reserve fund holds about $62m, per LlamaRisk. The equity sleeve will only show up once those dashboards update.
ENA also rallied into the news, up double digits on the day. Yet analysts tie much of that move to a token unlock on October 5, not this deal. So the price reaction is not cleanly attributable to the partnership.
For now, the size stays undisclosed and the live tickers stay unconfirmed. Watch the backing dashboards and the promised side letter for the first hard proof. This article is not financial advice.
