@DavideCrapis Humans needed shared myths to coordinate at scale. AI will need shared ledgers. Ethereum becomes the trust layer for minds that don't sleep - and ERC-8004 is the first handshake. This is what "world computer" always meant. 🌐

Originally proposed in 2025, ERC-8004 enables trust, reputation, and validation for autonomous agents — all directly on Ethereum. It aims to create a standardized layer for identity and coordination, allowing agents like trading bots or billing scripts to securely interact across dApps, wallets, and protocols.
ERC-8004 introduces a modular system built around three core registries:
Together, these elements allow AI agents to move between environments without starting from scratch. It also opens up room for advanced rules like decaying reputation or context-specific scoring as the ecosystem matures.
ERC-8004 isn’t launching in isolation. It’s already integrated with protocols like x402 for on-chain payments and A2A for agent-to-agent messaging. This stack, when combined with tools like ZK-EVMs and PeerDAS, creates a highly scalable, trustless coordination layer.
According to teams involved in the rollout, some projects are already managing millions of AI agent IDs and tasks in testnet environments. Once live, the same infrastructure will support real-world applications on Ethereum L1 and L2s.
Relative positioning vs prior Ethereum application standards
ERC-8004 is designed with a broad range of use cases in mind, including:
Projects like ZyfAI are even integrating zero-knowledge proofs to add privacy to the mix.
If adoption holds, Ethereum could quickly become the settlement layer for agent-to-agent (A2A) economic coordination, challenging centralized AI systems with a programmable, permissionless alternative.
The standard first surfaced in community forums like Ethereum Magicians in mid-2025. By the time the Ethereum Foundation formed a dedicated dAI team in August, dozens of devs had already begun building.
Tools like 8004scan.io now let users browse agent metadata and reputation on Ethereum testnets, Base, and Polygon. Multiple independent teams have implemented early versions of ERC-8004, accelerating the feedback loop.
Although the mainnet launch was initially expected on January 16, community channels now point to January 29. A final audit delay may have caused the shift.
Despite its momentum, ERC-8004 still faces limitations:
Nonetheless, the Ethereum community is moving fast. As other chains race to support AI use cases, Ethereum’s early advantage in developer tooling and standardization could prove decisive.
ERC-8004’s launch could unlock a $10B+ trustless AI economy. As more agents go live, expect integrations with wallets like MetaMask, real-time governance for validation logic, and possibly even bridges to non-EVM chains.
Once live, ERC-8004 will allow Ethereum to act not just as a global financial layer but as the coordination backbone for autonomous software agents worldwide.
