High attention and emotional sentiment detected.
The class launched quietly at first. Its shares went live on 17 September 2026. The public reveal came weeks later through a Ripple post on X. According to that post, the launch follows Aviva’s earlier tokenized USD fund from July.
The new share class carries the ticker AGB and the ISIN IE000PM9SAR2. It belongs to the Aviva Investors Sterling (GBP) Liquidity Fund, an Ireland-domiciled UCITS money market fund. The Central Bank of Ireland approved the structure.
The token sits on the XRP Ledger, a public blockchain backed by Ripple. Only eligible professional investors can hold it. The minimum subscription is about £1 million, and dealing happens daily.
Aviva seeded the class with roughly £50 million, according to Financial News. Across the sterling and earlier USD classes, combined tokenized assets now top £86 million. So the on-chain slice stays modest next to the full fund.
This is not a fund that lives natively on-chain. Instead, it uses a represented model, often called a digital twin. Each token mirrors a conventional book-entry share in the fund.
The underlying assets stay off-chain with the traditional custodian. Every day, the custodian reconciles the tokens against the official register. So the blockchain acts as a parallel record, not the system of truth.
The objective does not change. The fund still tracks the SONIA benchmark and holds low-risk, short-term sterling debt. Risk profile, liquidity, and investor protections match the conventional class.
Transfer rights stay restricted. Holders must clear KYC and AML checks first. As a result, the tokens cannot trade freely in open markets.
Key milestones in Ripple and Aviva’s institutional tokenization push
Ripple introduces its dollar-backed stablecoin, expanding its institutional digital asset offering.
Archax and other partners advance tokenized fund initiatives on the XRP Ledger.
Aviva Investors announces a partnership to explore tokenizing traditional fund structures on XRPL.
Aviva introduces a tokenized share class of its USD Liquidity Fund on the XRP Ledger.
Aviva’s tokenized Sterling Liquidity Fund share class is publicly announced, extending the initiative to GBP.
Further disclosures may clarify investor participation, token issuance and operational details.
Several firms sit behind the Aviva tokenized Sterling fund. Licuido provides the tokenization infrastructure. Komainu handles regulated digital-asset custody, while BNY Mellon keeps custody of the fund’s actual assets.
Ripple supplies the XRP Ledger and partnership support. Notably, the setup does not appear to use Ripple Custody as the primary digital custodian. The same stack powered Aviva’s USD class in July.
At the July launch, Aviva Investors chief executive Mark Versey said the firm was “thrilled” to enter tokenization. He called it “a significant development within the investment industry.” Ripple’s Nigel Khakoo described that USD class as “a landmark moment for fund tokenisation.” No new executive quote specific to the sterling class has surfaced yet.
Aviva’s tokenized fund compared with institutional peers
The headline number dwarfs the on-chain reality. The full fund holds about £22 billion, yet the tokenized seed sits near £50 million. That is under 0.4% of the sterling fund.
On-chain data backs this up. Bithomp shows the token with an outstanding supply of 50,000 units and a single holder wallet. Activity on the ledger is minimal so far. The asset also appears on RWA.xyz, which tracks it as a represented token issued on XRPL through Licuido.
Analysts have flagged the gap before. When Ledger Insights covered the USD class, it noted the non-transferable, restricted design limits practical use. The same caveats still apply here.
Aviva’s path to this launch started in February 2026. Back then, Aviva Investors and Ripple announced a plan to tokenize traditional fund structures on XRPL. Ripple called it a first tie-up with a European asset manager.
The first live product arrived on 29 July 2026. That was the tokenized USD Liquidity Fund class, also approved in Ireland. The sterling class followed in September and went public in October.
The timing fits a wider regulatory shift. In April 2026, the UK’s FCA published guidance on fund tokenisation. A month later, the FCA and the Bank of England set out a shared vision for tokenising wholesale markets.
The launch adds to a steady run of real-world asset activity on the XRP Ledger. Still, the market barely reacted. XRP traded near $1.28 on 26 October, down slightly on the day, with no spike tied to the news.
XRPL DeFi TVL sits around $38 million, according to DefiLlama. Tokenized funds like this one do not flow into that figure, because they stay permissioned and off open markets.
For asset managers, the bigger signal is the template. Aviva has now shipped two tokenized classes on the same rails in four months. The Aviva tokenized Sterling fund shows how fast the model is maturing, and other managers may copy it soon.
