In a Web3 gaming landscape often criticized for complexity, speculation, and lackluster gameplay, CREO Engine is stepping in with a focused mission: to make blockchain gaming simple, rewarding, and actually enjoyable. I spoke with Darrel Wijaya, the co-founder and CTO of CREO Engine, for our “Founder’s Formula” series, and what emerged is a story of passion, purpose, and platform-building in its truest sense.
“The idea behind CREO Engine came from something pretty simple: we love games,” Darrel shares. “But we saw how messy the Web3 gaming space was.” Between convoluted onboarding, tokens without real use cases, and games that felt like afterthoughts to speculation, the industry was losing its way. CREO was created to change that. Instead of building just another game or marketplace, the team envisioned an entire ecosystem—one where developers could launch quickly, players could onboard easily, and every token interaction added value to the gameplay experience. In short, CREO aims to be a platform play: not just where games are launched, but where an integrated Web3 gaming experience is lived.
What Makes CREO Different
According to Darrel, three core elements distinguish CREO from other blockchain gaming platforms.
First, built-in gamification. The platform itself is a game. Holding $CREO doesn’t just sit in your wallet—it boosts your gameplay, increases drop rates, enhances your profile, and improves your chances at platform-wide rewards. Second, simplified onboarding. Through tools like CreoPlay IDs and the EZ Wallet, built in partnership with Xellar, the platform removes the need for complex crypto wallet setups. “No MetaMask drama. No gatekeeping,” as Darrel puts it. Third, a truly interconnected ecosystem. Unlike many Web3 games that operate in silos, CREO enables interoperability across titles. Shared reward pools, transferable assets, and cross-game token utility are baked into the system.
At the heart of the CREO ecosystem lies the $CREO token—and it’s not just for speculation. For players, holding $CREO means better in-game rewards, early access to titles, governance participation, and reduced platform fees. In CreoPlay, $CREO enhances loot boxes, multipliers, and referral bonuses. For developers, it unlocks publishing perks, promotional visibility, and platform support. Most importantly, $CREO maintains real utility throughout gameplay—earned, spent, and used within an evolving ecosystem. As Darrel puts it, “It’s like a VIP badge that actually does something.”
The Biggest Challenge: Rebuilding Trust
CREO isn’t just fighting for attention—it’s fighting to restore trust. “We’re asking gamers, mostly from Web2, to trust Web3 again,” Darrel says. Years of poorly executed projects have left many users skeptical, and developers equally disillusioned. CREO’s approach? Build in public. Instead of overhyping, the team focused on consistent updates, community transparency, and a product-first mentality. “Value first, hype second,” Darrel emphasizes. Slowly but surely, this strategy has begun to pay off, with a growing base of users and real partnerships backing the platform’s promise.
CREO isn’t slowing down. Several exciting updates are on the horizon. First, Hero Fantasy, a tap-based RPG, is rolling out new seasonal content and Gems-to-USDT onramps, bringing real-world value to in-game progression. Next up is PowerPals, a social-focused game in collaboration with Lisk, launching on both browser and Telegram. And behind the scenes, the team is developing an integrated on-chain item system—enabling users to carry assets seamlessly between games within the CREO ecosystem.
The 2–3 Year Vision: Becoming Web3’s Core Gaming Layer
Looking ahead, Darrel sees CREO evolving into something much bigger: “We’ll be the platform people use without even realizing it’s Web3.” The ambition is to become the Steam and Discord of blockchain gaming—a place where games launch easily, players participate effortlessly, and the ecosystem quietly powers everything behind the scenes. Rather than disrupt gaming, CREO wants to connect it—through better infrastructure, smarter economies, and unified experiences.
