The Bitcoin community is actively discussing former US President Donald Trump’s comments at the Republican National Convention. Trump claimed that El Salvador, led by Bitcoin advocate President Nayib Bukele, is “dumping criminals” into the US, sparking significant debate among Bitcoin enthusiasts and political observers.
The Bitcoin community responded quickly. The Bitcoin Therapist warned Trump to substantiate his claims if he continues to criticize Bukele. Mark Keiser, Bukele’s Bitcoin advisor, stated he would address Trump directly at the upcoming Bitcoin Conference. Despite the reactions, Bukele has not directly responded but is promoting his new Salvadoran coffee brand. Trump’s comments have added a new dimension to the political discourse within the Bitcoin community, with anticipation building for the Bitcoin Conference 2024, where Trump and other political figures like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy will speak.
Jonathan Hargreaves, Global Head of Business Development at Elastos, emphasized the importance of such engagements for Bitcoin’s potential to drive global economic growth. He noted the significance of the US President engaging with international leaders to create consensus on policy frameworks for Bitcoin.
