MegaETH launches its high-speed Ethereum Layer-2 mainnet with 100,000 TPS and low fees for DeFi, gaming and real-time apps.
Author: Arushi Garg
30th January, 2026 – MegaETH is set to launch its mainnet on February 9, 2026, aiming to solve Ethereum’s scalability issues. Backed by Vitalik Buterin and $450M in funding, it promises up to 100,000 TPS and sub-millisecond latency after processing 10.7B transactions in a stress test. The network targets faster, cheaper blockchain experiences for DeFi, gaming, and real-time applications.
High Signal Summary For A Quick Glance
MegaETH, an Ethereum Layer-2 network with up to 100,000 TPS and sub-millisecond latency, completed a seven-day stress test in January 2026, processing 10.7 billion transactions and reaching 35,000 TPS. Backed by Vitalik Buterin and $450 million raised in 2025, it aims to offer faster, cheaper alternatives to Ethereum’s mainnet.
Layer-2 launches like Optimism (2021) and Arbitrum (2023) followed similar stress tests and mostly saw bullish market reactions, Arbitrum’s ARB token rose 20% in its first week despite short-term volatility. MegaETH is expected to drive adoption in gaming, DeFi, and real-time applications.
Key milestones in MegaETH’s evolution and mainnet rollout
MegaETH is established as an Ethereum Layer-2 focused on real-time performance, securing roughly $20M in seed funding backed by investors including Dragonfly and Vitalik Buterin.
MegaETH partners with Ethena Labs to launch USDm, its native stablecoin designed to align incentives for network participants and strengthen ecosystem stability.
MegaETH raises over $450M in a highly oversubscribed public token sale, reaching a reported $999M fully diluted valuation for MEGA.
Co-founder Shuyao publishes the “Last Mile” blog describing real-time blockchain infrastructure goals, including sub-millisecond latency targets.
MegaETH reveals its mainnet rollout approach, beginning with a global stress test designed to validate high throughput under real-world demand.
Mainnet stress testing begins, reportedly processing billions of transactions and demonstrating throughput around 35,000 TPS ahead of public launch.
Following stress test success, MegaETH confirms its February 9 public mainnet launch and highlights headline performance targets such as 100,000 TPS capability.
MegaETH launches its public mainnet, enabling real-time Ethereum-compatible applications with ultra-low fees and high-throughput execution.
Beyond its headline TPS and stress test figures, MegaETH uses heterogeneous execution environments, enabling specialized hardware for AI-driven DeFi offering advantages over standard L2s like Arbitrum but raising centralization concerns. Its tokenomics, including a 20% ecosystem incentive via USDm stablecoins, could boost adoption while prompting scrutiny over governance and sustainability.
Backing from undisclosed Asian VCs and connections to Ethereum core developers suggest strategic alliances for interoperability, though they may spark debate over influence on Ethereum’s roadmap. Private security audits, such as those by Quantstamp, remain underreported, affecting user trust and early adoption from Ethereum mainnet users.
